This is why I always look at posts where people say "spine whacks have no real world value" with a cocked eyebrow. You never know when situations like this can arise, and it's best that you have a reason to be fully confident in your tools.

have to give credit where credit is due...I contacted Kershaw and they more than took care of the problem, very good customer service. the replacement was flawless (yes, i checked this one). just wanted you guys to know...
Good to hear it--Kershaw has certainly been terrific in my dealings with them. My Boa stands up well to any spine whack test as well, so I'm glad to hear that it was an isolated problem.
Yeah, I'd have no problem using any of my Kershaw knives like that. Well, except the Chive, I guess, because it'd just be too hard to hold on to anyway in that situation. .
