Kershaw Boa pros and cons

Ah yes. The infamous IBS coating. :D lol.

BTW, never had a boa. I loved the scallion. Did not like the chive.
I had the regular Commander. It was extremely well built and Green Beret tough. Unfortunately, I am not associated with high speed, low drag, black bag special ops at this time.

Two things that I don't like about the Boa:
It's not very "Lefty-friendly".
It's a liner-lock.

A post I read a few days back read "the Sharpmaker will sharpen the points fine if you don't draw it all the way through"(i think) but anyway to sharpen the point do you or do you not draw the point all the way throu through the rod?

I own both a Boa and a Scallion. Neither get carried too much but I do like them. The speed safe works great when the knife has a "flipper" like these two.

There are two things I do not like about the Boa. One is that the blade seems impossible to center, between the scales, when closed. It always rubs on one side or the other. Secondly I ruined 3 pair of new Dockers by carrying the Boa clipped in my pocket. That flipper and the edges of the handle are just too sharp and "edgy". Now I had a leather sheath made, like the one Michael_Aos has. Gary Graley made the sheath. The only difference is my sheath is black. The sheath is the only way to go if own a Boa.

I have never had to sharpen the Boa yet. However, I bet that the same sharpener I successfully use on my Emerson Commanders will work on the Boa recurve also. Buy a Jewelstik 1-2-3 by Hewlett Co. Their web site is http://www.jewelstik.com/HTML/jsknifesharpener.html

The Jewelstik makes sharpening recurved blades quite easy. Try it. You will like it.

Ya I read several post on those custom made sheaths and thought it might be neat to get one. but I have a few questions like, what is the usual cost, how long does it take and what is his web site?
If anyone could answer these questions that would be great.

thanks all

Manwe: Gary Graley's web site is

I believe the cost was somewhere around $40.00.

Basicly if it wasn't for the ability to carry the Boa in a sheath (a basic pouch or a custom leather sheath) I would have sold the knife. No sense owning a folder that rips up your pants. Honestly, it did not rip up any blue jeans, but Dockers and dress pants did not hold up with that sharp flipper. Even my wave equiped Commanders do not rip my pants.
