Anyone have any stats on this knife? I'm planning on getting one of these or another Kershaw, any suggestions? Thanks

IMHO, Nice quality small inexpensive knife. I carry mine everyday as a companion to my Mini Commander. Razor sharp. Great at opening mail etc. You really need to handle different ones in person if possible, since I have noticed a big variance in smoothness among different ones, you need to see several to pick the best quality one. Get one, you won't be disappointed. I really like mine a lot.

Edited to add: Go to Wal-Mart if they sell them where you live. No shipping and relatively cheap at 29 dollars.

I have really enjoyed my Scallion (black/plain blade). It's action is very fast and the blade is extremely sharp. I looked at a Chive at the knife show where I purchased the Scallion and felt that it was a little too small. As I noted in the subject I have a Leek on the way. It may be larger than you want. May I suggest that you give the Scallion a chance. Whatever you decide I think you will be pleased with the any knife in the Onion series.

IMHO,

Its a great knife, blade is a little easy to scratch, but if your planning to use it, then that shouldnt matter.

Ïm still wating for Kershaw to compansate me with a new spring, as my old one broke. (That doesnt happen to often).

In a while, ill have to get one of those T6 anodised ones, possibly the blue one.:)

It's money well spent though.

Yeah, I know there are cheaper places, but I was at Wal-Mart and could hold one. Didn't have to pay shipping and wait. Plus, I held three before I found one that the action and lockup was perfect. That beats mail order when you don't know which one you will get.

Took the words right out of my mouth:D just didn't know how to put it. I'm not the kind of person that likes to wait for knives:D

I love my tiny Stainless Steel Chive but my Leek is a better size for me. Plus the blade shape on the Leek is pretty cool.I sold my Scallion before I got it out of the box so I don't know much about it.

I like the leek too, looks like a "normal" knife. Not that the chive looks weird, I'd just rather get a small knife with that type of blade than it's big brother, but that's just me. Since I haven't seen the knives yet, I'll probably change my mind about it. It's the handle of the scallion that just doesn't appeal to me. I wonder if they have it in aluminum black?

I just came from the Kershaw site and found that they have a dozen or so Scallions to choose from. Also several Chives. They just released the Whisper that looks very good also.

I just came back from the site and couldn't find anything on the whisper. Well, today I might go to wal-mart and take a look at their selection. More info later on what I get.

Would you please post the URL of that site? The general Kershaw web site that I know about does not have any of that information yet.

Go to the top of this page and click Makers and Manufaturers. Then scroll to What's New. Lots of talk about Kerhaw but I always have to adjust my screen so that the server will give me the last 30 days worth of posts.I'll try to CCP the URL because I'm going there when I leave this post.

I believe the Chive to be a good cutter. The blade is only 2 1/4 inches long.So far it opens cardboard boxes really well.It is very hard to grip due to the 2 3/4 inch handle. The blade shape is quite unique also.

The blade shape is a recurve, and it's razor sharp. I just sliced the top off a large cardboard box like it was butter. It is perfect for opening mail, cutting loose threads, and anytime when the Mini Commander might scare the people at church. I can get a relatively good grip with the chive, but obviously not as secure a grip as my Mini Commander. The tip is very pointed and great for puncturing.

I guess I'll go with the Leek first. Then I'll get a companion to go with it. It depends on what I can afford:D. When you say you cut off the top of a large cardboard box, did you use the serrated edge chive or the plain edge? Does the Leek cut as good as the chive? Thanks.

Medic, was the Leek also at Wal-mart? Thanks

I don't remember right off hand if it was the Leek or the Scallion that they had. I really liked the smaller size of the Chive, so I wasn't really interested in the larger Kershaws. they also had the Vapor. Do note that there is a notice that the speedsafe knives aren't available at all Wal-Marts, probably due to the similarity to autos.
