Kershaw colaboration?

Unlikely, given that Ken Onion has left Kershaw, and as I recall, the Spyker was Kershaw/KO (a lot of the Bump design made it into the Spyker).

It's too bad...hard to get some of the best designers in the world (maybe THE best designers) together like that, and the original Spyker just didn't get the credit it deserved (although in fairness, the big writing on the blade was a huge turnoff).

Gosh I hope not. I sure didn't like the SpyKer at all. Don't like recurves, and don't like HUGE PRINT all over the blade.

That's sad. :(

I've never felt myself drawn to the Ken Onion designs myself, but I've always wanted to pick up a KO Kershaw at some point.

Does this mean the discontinued KAI/KO knives may become more collectable now?

Quite probably. Certainly, the number of KO folders in the world that we predicted to exist before we found out about KO's departure is in great excess of the number of KO folders that we now predict will exist.

That said, it's going to mostly depend on the model. Limited runs from KO like the Ti Bump and Tyrade are going to benefit in the long run, but there are some KO folders like the basic Leek that are just so omnipresent that the rarity will not be impacted for a very long time. And it's not as if Kershaw will just stop making half their knives. We don't even know if there won't be future KO/Kershaw collaborations...we just know that if they're in the cards, they're going to be far fewer than we see today. We might start saying KOs in other brands now.

In my mind's eye though, KO is Kershaw and vice versa. I hope future Kershaw folders are at least KO-esque. But we can see in its current line up that KO's influence is felt even in its other designers. For instance, the JYD and RAM both have flippers...and the JYD, shape wise, is fairly KOish anyway.

I'm sure there'll be more KO knives in Kershaw's future. That said, I'm not worried about Kershaw in the least, they've expanded to a lot of new designers in the past few years, some of them even in house. Grant and Gavin Hawk look to have the most potential right now, but I doubt we'll ever see another single designer have as much influence on a production company as Ken did on Kershaw.

Kershaw still has plenty of first-class designers in its stock---I'd dive further into this discussion but this is the Spyderco section of BladeForums and there are no doubt more in-depth posts on the Kershaw section and GKD.

The overall design of the SpyKer was well-executed, but I agree with the others---less print on the blade and perhaps a card in the knife's case would've been more appropriate. Still a nice design, and a cool collaboration.
