I recieved a Mini Cyclone about a month ago.
Pros: *Overall shape of blade
*Handle shape
*Lock up very nice via liner lock
*Can open via either Speed hump or thumb studs
Cons: *AO (They call it Speed Safe) on/off switch malfuntioned within a
day. Sent back and Kershaw replaced ASAP. This left me with little
confidence in this design.
*Aluminum handle lacked any tack. It was down right slippery.
Unknowns: * I never really got a chance to test out the blade steel.
Blur with S30V blade
Pros: * A substantial knife with nice heft
* Stone washed S30V blade has excellent edge retention and gets
super sharp without a lot of time consuming effort.
* Handle is very ergonomic and has excellent tack
* Lock up is very solid via liner lock
* Opening with the AO is very solid and secure
* Thumb studs are shaped to your thumb - nice feature.
Cons: * Opens only via the thumbstuds. I would like to see a speed hump
like on the Mini Cyclone. No big deal.
Both knives are very nice but I prefer the Blur because of it's handle with some grip and my lack of cofindence in the on/off switch on the Mini Cyclone.
I'm EDCing an S30V Blur for a month. Its' a superb knife, altough the thumb studs were initially too sharp. (Some sandpaper work fixed this. )
I handled the ZDP Cyclone too - whoa, what a hitech miracle!
For EDC I don't need the titanium handle, so I'll go with the regular Mini Cyclone to my collection...
I have a Mini Cyclone, with the ZDP-189 blade and titanium handles, and I LOVE it!! I have been very impressed with this knife. Now mind you, I normally only buy Custom knives.
