Kershaw Damascus

Almost bought a Damascus Leek on the ebay, thank god i was outbid, after bidding on my phone when I got home I looked at the knife again and saw XXXX on the blade and was mad. I don't mind blems but It wasn't in the description. I called the seller out on it and he said it didn't have the XXXX on the blade. I'm not blind. Guess I'll wait till a good one pops up...also Thomas told me there are having another run of Damascus Leeks sometime this year.

pictures of said knife with no XXXX . Guy was a ^%$# when i Called him out on it.

I recently bought a Blur on the bay that ended up being a blem and it wasn't in the description either. The seller [claimed they] actually had no idea what a "blem" was or why the Xs were on there, or they were just plain dishonest. Anyway, when they weren't willing to work with me on a return or refund, I opened a case against them. Things worked out pretty quickly after that, but they were also being "difficult" about it. By the way, +1 on the good eyes remark. I wouldn't have seen it either.

Update on my Damascus hunt. So far i've got 2 leeks, 1 Shallot and 3 scallions. The hardest ones to find are the Zing and the skyline.. Every skyline I find is not for sale haha..

I have been reluctant to use my damascus scallion, I am saving it for a rainy day.

Can anyone comment about the cutting performance of the Damascus, or edge retention, rust resistance ? Or does anyone have any information about whose damascus they used? Or what steels went into the process?

I've read in at least more than one thread and on more than one forum that Alabama Damascus is who provides them their steel. But I don't know or remember the original source of that info so it may be wrong information repeated lots of times.

(edited bit here)Found some info. Someone posted that it is 52100, 5160, and 15N20 in this thread
Again, no idea how accurate this info is. It wasn't posted by Thomas so may not be accurate, and should Thomas be wrong, reality bends to his will.(end edit)

Your information is correct. Mike (2brothers) emailed Alabama Damascus and got this reply back:

The steel is made from the following:

We use (3) layers of 52100, (4) layers of 5160, (3) layers of 203E, and (3)
layers of 15N20.

The steel is forged out and folded 5 times to give you 416 layers.

The leeks are made from a random pattern. Brad told me that Kershaw is
about to release a knife made from our ladder pattern steel.

Thanks

Didn't even know that they made a Demascus Salvo. I think I need that, and pull out the inlays and replace them with black carbon fiber.

For those asking about performance, I've tested it using my same old hardly scientific method. It performed on par with VG-10 and 154cm, which surprised me. Took a screaming edge and held it for a good long while, actually longer than the same knife in the stock steel. (Skyline in 14c)

Yeah my user Damascus Scallion Holds an amazing edge and looks great with the Mirror Edge.
