Just looking for a decent EDC blade that could double as a workhorse. Narrowed it down to these two. The country of origin doesn't really matter to me

I think either one would make a good edc, depends which design really you like better...

Link for me, mainly because I'm not a fan of the Emerson designs, and also because I'm curious how Kershaw's 420HC performs.

Kershaw is one of the best companies for the money. I own a smoke green blur, Damascus Skyline and a Emerson 6k. Never had a problem with them. Although I am a huge Emerson fan. However, I recently purchased a HD7 and while I do like it more for many reasons. I would have to say that the Kershaw 6k was finished better than the HD7, in reference to the price point. You could not possibly go wrong with your decision. Its the best of both worlds.

I'd go with the CQC-6K. The wave is too much fun not to have at least one knife with it. Plus those Kershemersons are the real deal. They make fantastic work knives.

I love the aluminum kershaw link. I use it as an EDC and switched out the kershaw clip with a free ZT clip I got from Kershaw so I can do deep carry in my pocket. The assisted opening is sweet and feels solid when it is fully deployed. Also having the name of 1776 Link and being made in USA made it extra special to me because I love this country.

I own the 1K and i love the wave feature its fun to screw around with, but i really want the link. If i didnt already own a kershaw emerson i would jump all over the 6K; but since i do, i would go with link. I sleepy persons direct answer 6K if you dont already own a kershaw emerson,

I have both knives. You will not be disappointed with either. The Link has a thinner blade and slices a little bit better and is a little lighter than the Emerson. The Emerson is more fun to play with.

Here is what I would do: buy the Link first, then buy the Emerson. The Emerson is really inexpensive.

I personally like the design of the Emerson better but that is subjective. But the Emerson is almost $20 cheaper and that $20 could be used toward a Swiss Army Classic or your next knife.....

I love Kershaw and I have owned both in the past two weeks but cannot recommend either. Both disappointed me. I like Emerson designs but; the handle on the 6k just didn't fit my hand. The Link handle was very fat compared to the blade in my opinion. I will say that the Link flips pretty well when deassisted, cleaned and lubed. You have to have twoT6 drivers to do it though.

I'd go with an Ontario Rat 1 or 2 depending on your size preference which would be priced between the two above.

The Kershaw Link can be de-assisted?

Both could serve you well. There's a lot to like with each model. I have an aluminum Link, and it is a robust knife. It feels great in hand, and the blade profile is very handy for a lot of my cutting tasks. The CQC-6K has great ergos and the wave opener, and it too has a very solid feel. You said country of origin doesn't matter to you, but, for what it's worth, I'd lean a bit towards the Link because it is a US-made model that's at about the same price as the imports.

Any kershaw knife with speedsafe can be de-assisted.

That is not true. The Cryo and Cryo 2 both have Speedsafe and cannot be deassisted in the traditional sense, you can tighten the pivot and keep the blade closed. Yes, you do have to have a detent to deassist a Speedsafe Kershaw knife reliably. Yes the Link can be deassisted, I had the aluminum version and it had a nice detent. After removing the spring, cleaning all of the grease out and relubing it flipped as good as my Skyline. It was a pretty nice flipper, so nice that I think Kershaw should have sold them that way.

Since the Link can be de-assisted I think I'll go with the Link

Thanks everyone for your posts!
