Kershaw Emerson CQC-7: Outstanding Budget Blade

I bought one of these as a gift for a co-worker.
Prior to this, he had EDCd a Kershaw Needs Work for years.

After a few weeks, he told me how much he loves this knife and I see him carrying it every day now :)

He insisted that I tell him how much it was so he can repay me.
I told him cash is boring, and I told him he could pay me back by buying me an Ontario Utilitac tanto :P

You guys sound like total bros. Is your company hiring? :D

I really like my 3k. I like the blade shape a lot, and it feels perfect in hand for a $30 knife. So much that I've been eyeing the Bulldog now. Just wondering if the difference in blade length and grind would make a huge difference from the 3k.

It would've been nice if they had made these like the real Emerson's in terms of size & with a steel liner lock for all of em. I held a 1K at a local bricks and mortar knife store and was shocked at how small it was... Based on this picture it appears the entire line-up is pint sized/undersized.

I feel they're a perfect range of sizes. Preferences,

Well, add this to my wish list. Maybe it will be the first tanto I buy.

The 6034T is bigger than some Emerson's and smaller than others with a 3.25" blade and an OAL of 7.75"...costs a little bit less as well. What's not to like?

I agree, I was also surprised by how small most of them are.

Just added the 6K to my rotation. Got it on sale for $21.00 total. Best value knife ever. The blade sharpened easily. I also took the black coating off the thumb disk. Looks quite nice now.

The Kershaw CQC-6K and CQC-7K seem right in line with the size of the Emerson CQC-7, which I understand is a pretty popular Emerson model. If you compare one of the smallest of the collaboration pieces (CQC-1K) with one of the larger models Emerson makes (Roadhouse), the size difference should, unsurprisingly, be significant.

I would guess the target audience for the CQC-6K/7K/8K are going to be those looking for an EDC knife around the size of the CQC-7, and the sizes seem to match up well.

Also, Emerson uses titanium liners, not steel (at least according to Emerson's site). One of the key benefits of titanium is reduced weight, not strength (especially when it comes to lock face contacts). That said, the lock face contact width on the collaboration pieces seems to be just as well engaged as the Emerson.

The smaller models (CQC-1K through 5K) are likely targeting those looking for something closer to the size of, say, a Mini-CQC7 or Micro-Commander. Based on the published specs, those knives seem right in line there too.

Those looking for something larger (eg. Commander, Roadhouse, CQC-15, etc.) are likely not the target audience for these collaboration pieces.

You post did an excellent job of illustration the knives you were talking about. Honestly I personally if I had it too do over, would still choose the real deal Emerson over the colabaration knife if I was able to afford the real deal. I was able to afford the real deal, CQC-7-BW Left Handed Model. I think I could go to War with this knife.
