Kershaw/Emerson CQC line coming soon- Damn I'm excited

I thought Emerson was against manufacturing his knives in China. I remember some posts on his site about the American worker blah blah blah.

I guess as long as he isn't directly manufacturing them in China then its cool ;)

Here are the words straight from the man himself:

"Now, there are those who have said “The ABDC + D Company has all kinds of different knife models and locks. Why can’t Emerson just do that? If they can, he should be able to.”

The reason is that we don’t have our knives made in China. I don’t just sit in an office and make a phone call to order a thousand models x’s and a thousand model y’s. I never will."

If they produce some with 14...Sandvik, offer their knives with blades 3.5-4 inches I would be more interested. If they restarted their sub-forum back up I would be really interested.

I might also add Emerson said this in 2011:

"Have I ever been approached to move our operations overseas? Yeah, a bunch of times. Have I ever been tempted to move it overseas? Hell no!

If it weren't for the opportunities and freedoms I had here in America I wouldn't be here where I am today.

I'll never be able to repay that debt in full. But I can try. I can use American made parts and materials. I can hire Americans and provide them with a job, a living, a future. And I can sleep well at night.

Wouldn't I make more money and profit if I went to China? Hell yes I would. In fact, by now I would be a multi-millionaire.

It would be a lot easier to just get on the phone and say "Send me another 2000 CQC-7's," like the other knife companies do. But it is not about money. It's not about taking the easy patch. If you think I'm those things, then you don't know me at all.

Hell, I was raised in a log cabin built by my Grandfather for $42.50. I've done without. I've been poor. I learned to work - to work hard. When I was only nine years old, I started working in the woods with my Dad. I've earned everything I now own. And it has not been by taking the "easy path."

I own a Company, a successful company. I have a factory. I have my own training facility. I am my own boss.

I am an American success story.

Where else could I have done these things?

I pay American taxes. I pay American wages. I pay American prices for steel and all of our raw materials.

And I'm ok with that. I drive a 96 Chevy Suburban. And I'm ok with that.

And I know one thing for certain. A whole lot of others are OK with that too. And those are our customers, our friends, our fellow Americans.

I'm proud of what I've done. I'm proud of what I do. My wife is proud of me. My daughters and my son are proud of their Dad.

How could you ever put a price on that?"

I guess he finally was able to put a price on it.

I am looking the most forward to the CQC-1K and 6K. The 1K has the exact same blade shape of a ZT I could never find when they were affordable, and now can't remember the name of in case I want to search for a cheap one. The 6K provides what I would call the "quintessential Emerson" design. Both looks like keepers and winners.

I believe you're thinking of the 0780 :)

I hate that new logo though. It's absolutely ugh. Just stick with the old Kershaw logo and engrave the text "Emerson design" somewhere with the wave patent and all that.

The logo looks cheesy on the pocket clip, but I don't think it looks too bad on the blade. Putting it on the pocket clip was a little over kill though....Would be much better with a low key all black pocket clip.

I guess I can tolerate the logo on the 5k, which has a pretty big blade surface area - so that the logo doesn't have too much of a billboard effect. Actually, that's probably the first one I'm going to get. I'll probably buy the ZT framelock secondhand months after release.

I wouldn't consider Emerson to be "selling out". He's tapping into the two different markets that he won't normally get business from: those on a budget who want an Emerson designed blade but can't afford his USA made stuff, and those who treat pocket knives as pocket jewelry but won't buy a production Emerson because the finish isn't on par with what they expect at that price point.

If one notes what was posted above, Emerson is referring to his own factory, not other companies that he collaborates with. I respect the man for that.

I'll stick with my USA made Emersons because they just work (and that darn CQC-13 keeps finding it's way back in to my pocket).

I guess he finally was able to put a price on it.

Are you finished with your off-topic post? God I hope so.

Right on, bro! Let this continue and next thing will be folks going all political about all the American knife companies finding ways to sneak jobs offshore and the current unemployment lines and all that meaningless stuff. Lets keep this thread the Kershaw/Emerson love fest it was meant to be!

I guess he finally was able to put a price on it.

One has nothing to do with the other. He's talking about moving Emerson as a company overseas. This is a licensing agreement. No one at Emerson will be losing their job over this. Emerson knives will not be made overseas. Ernie will not be able to call someone and order 2000 cqc-7s.

Go read his explanation of the deal and learn something.

Who is trying to sneak jobs offshore? AFAIK every American knife manufacturer is running at max capacity as it is. So closing down all of the overseas production wouldn't magically make all of those knives get produced in the USA, they simply would disappear...

Exactly.
This ain't the political section.
There's a whole sub-forum for politics.
THIS sub-forum is about discussing knives.

I know, right?
