Kershaw Factory

If you are heading south as the arrow shows, yes that is the factory on the west. My office is where the blue strip is to be exact.

Wow I didn't think you guys were that "close" to me. Only 167.44 miles according to mapquest! Do you guys give a factory tour?

If I was heading north, wouldn't it still be on the west? :D
Where is this "blue strip" you speak of?

Not if the arrow was pointing North.

And I couldn't find the blue strip either. maybe Thomas meant blue stripe? But I couldn't find a blue stripe either...

What? Oh, I see...no, the arrow is not part of a compass rose...it's Google pointing to the address I entered (as it were). No, Google Maps depicts north to the top of the page, just like Mapquest or Yahoo.

Zoom in on the factory, you will see the blue strip....stripe......well you will see what I mean.

All of the cars are white, red or black. Is that a Kershaw thing?

Speaking of Kershaw, who is your biggest customer? Snap-On possibly?

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but maybe Google is displaying the arrow in a different spot for me.

West of the arrow gives me this building.

Left of the arrow, traveling south (a direction we on the right hand side of the country, like to refer to as East :p ) gives us this building (which is the one I'm leaning toward as the factory). (Area circled in red is the blue strip/stripe.)

On the other hand if the arrow is in a different spot, maybe its this one?

Technology is really amazing sometimes.

Thats some pretty awesome stuff to be able to do. I mean just a few years ago that was a pipe dream. Makes the folks saying there is life on mars look pretty naive huh? I mean if there was we'd see his sorry naked a$$ running around up there!

You know my sense of direction has always been pretty bad, but yea this is the factory. I'm there right now.

Ah! That blue strip! I was looking at the wrong building (the first pic in kneedeep's post), hence my confusion (what blue strip/stripe/polka-dot???). Okay, now I'm with you.

Yeah, Google-maps is off by a house or two on my address, too, so I never know what to expect. Still, beats a paper map.

Thanks, Thomas. That makes a lot more sense. I was staring pretty hard at the first building too, trying to figure out where the hell that blue strip was.

I just chalked that direction thing up to being a bit frazzled getting ready for the Blade show AND taking care of this GREAT new forum.

STR, it is amazing, the only real drawback is that the satellite photos aren't always that current. I checked the satellite view of my house and the place I used to work and spotted my old car at both, (on the other hand, I could actually see my car!)

Actually I remember as early as the late 90s satellite photography being redilly available on the internet. You could type in an address and get a picture of that address. It wasn't advanced as Google Maps or Google Earth as far as interface goes but still supplied much of the same information.

The funny thing about that is many of the images now are the same ones from then. Definitely a lot easier to use now though, I remember the first satellite image browsers I used needed lat/lon input. The hybrid image button is great, the map overlay definitely makes the sat image more useful.

By the way, STR have you seen either of these links?
http://www.google.com/mars/
http://moon.google.com/

And if you haven't tried google earth yet, you really should.
http://earth.google.com/

You can even use it to track flights, real-time in 3-D.

Remember, too, that not everything that you see on Google Maps/Earth is from a satellite camera; many of the pictures they use are (relatively) old USGS overflight photos, especially in the more rural areas.

STR & kneedeep:

check out local.live 3d search if you want to see something really cool.

Click on the 3d button, download the plug in (just like you do one google earth, but better 3D action). And all of the 3d stuff is recent acqusition.

Tualain isn't in total 3d yet, but check out a major city like San Fran or NYC. VERY cool, true 3D. This is my attempt at keeping this on topic 'cause I mentioned Kershaws home town. :p :D
