Kershaw Framelock Blade Centering

Are there any fellow Kershaw owners who have bought a frame lock design where the blade came centered in the frame?

I just received a Kershaw Volt SS Stainless Steel Speedsafe Knife and the blade is rubbing on the frame.

I checked my Leek when it first arrived and the blade was centered. I also heard that the new Cryos have this same problem with the blades not being centered?

Is this normal or a defect?

Thank You

Try adjusting the pivot to recenter the blade.

If that doesn't work kershaw's customer service will take care of you just send it in!

Have you tried:
Adjusting the tension on the pivot?
Making sure all the handle screws are tight?
Centering the blade on your own?

It's hardly a defect, especially on a budget knife. It can be fixed in a matter of minutes. With the knife closed:
1- Loosen all the handle screws (don't remove them, just loosen them)
2- Loosen the Pivot screw, again don't remove it
3- Get a small piece of paper and fold it a couple times. Wedge it in between the blade and handle until the blade is centered.
4- Tighten the pivot screw all the way.
5- tighten handle screws from the furthest away the pivot, alternating sides if needed.
6- Remove the paper, and slowly loosen the pivot screw just enough so that the blade can be flipped open.

Its not a defect, you need to tighten the pivot. 9 out of 10 of mine come centered or maybe a milli meter off. I can live with that. For those uncentered either tighten the pivot or loosen the pivot and handle screws to straighten it out use a wedge of paper on the rubbing side and tighten from the but end to the pivot. Remove paper should be close to straight. If not try again.

Rev beat me to it. Rev can we get this stickied at the top? It seems to be a reoccurring thing.

This is the only framelock I have, and it's awesome. But this knife is in another price point.

Top notch advice here:thumbup:

I have a number of Kershaws, including three Cryos and they all have well centered blades. I do have a brand new ZT0350 where the blade is pretty far off but to me it looks like the blade itself. I may try centering though....

Thanks for the step by step RedDevil. I have seen a number of folks mentioning adjusting the pivot screw to center a blade. Unfortunately they leave out the details. This is the best description of the process I have seen.

Glad to help agile. I'll be writing up a blog post regarding this with some pictures. It might be one of those things that would be helpful to a lot of people that might not want to bother asking. Also, if you need a good torx driver set, I would recommend looking at the big box hardware stores, they sell an 8-in-1 set that is tough as nails for less than $10.

Thank you for this information. After trying this on a older random leek I had success but the new Volt is just going to be replaced.
It sounds like scissors when I opened and closed it and the seller has offered to replace it.

I would add to open and close the knife a few times with ALL screws loose and maybe over correcting it with a folded paper shim before tightening it back down. That seemed to do the trick for me. Then I removed the pivot screw and put a drop of thread locker on it before adjusting it as the final step. This might make a good sticky thread as I did some searching and what I did find was a website saying Kershaw's Cryos were junk and the centering problem could not be fixed. I am disappointed they are no longer made in the U.S.A.

Thanks Again

Please tell me you didn't put RED thread lock on your pivot! Or on anything else, for that matter...

Hypermole, cryos were never made in the USA. Hope it centers out for you.
