Kershaw freefall and Wal-Mart

Gotta ask if anybody ordered the 14.00 version from WM cause I wanna know if it's actually 8CR ???

Yeah, I did. The model number was 3850WM. The description on their website said 8cr but, the blade wasn't marked like other Kershaw Knives. Also, the back strap which includes the lanyard hole and pocket clip mounting hole was plastic.

Initially I figured for $14, you couldn't go wrong for a beater. The ergonomics on it are good but, with the blade not being marked and the back strap being plastic I returned the two I bought.

Seems like pretty high expectations for an inexpensive knife with a lifetime guarantee. I bought 3-4 Kershaw "Crown" knives there 3 years ago, and they were in the basic blister pack. I don't remember if they were 8Cr or not, but I didn't really pay that much attention... they were $10 each. They were distributed as Christmas gifts, and two still survive. All reported they were good knives, and the folks that got them have used the daylights out of them for all manner of nasty tasks, and on occasion, after I sharpen them they actually get used as knives.

I don't have much expectations for a $14 knife, personally. But I trust the Kershaw brand. If I needed a good tool box (or in my case, a knife for the tool bags I wear) I wouldn't hesitate to trust a Kershaw product to perform. A $14 won't be a ZT, but it should outshine any other $14 utility knives on the market.
