I actually directly asked Kershaw about the Gerber sent to Hattori as a basis for design that you mentioned because I found that somewhat curious. Here's what he said about that: "My old friend Ichan Hattori probably does have an old Gerber hunter, but it wasn't from me. We were very careful not keep our designs unique to Kershaw and not copy others...especially Gerber. The proof of that is the fact no threat of design conflict was ever made towards our company in the twenty-five years that I was President of Kershaw Knives."
