Kershaw Induction, I can't believe I want one! Haha

Watching alot of videos on the Kershaw induction, Man, I must admit The Kershaw Induction is the first budget Kershaw I've really wanted since the Cryo first came out. The 2016 offerings were a total meh from Kershaw, even when I saw the 2017 line up I admit it was better but nothing called me. Which is understandable, I'm obsessed with knives and Kershaw is more about entry level sales

But Dang the induction is sweet.
I think it's the lock and handle ergos also that flipper position and slick, fast The deployment action with drop free closing.

In videos, it looks sick.

I've always wanted less assisted stuff from Kershaw.

Not the biggest fan of the blade shape, blade finish, nor am I dying to get another 8cr blade. But at the price and everything else on this knife seems like a solid blade for people that are more centered on the USER side rather then Collecting.

What are your thoughts on THIS knife?
I'm curious if any of you other blade heads have the induction on the radar and are surprised too.

IMG_2794.JPG Hey Shawn!!
Sounds exactly how I felt......before I got one in hand.
I ordered one from Kershawguy's site and got it last week. The one thought that keeps bouncing around my head is......I wish they let ZT build this one!!
The action is superb.....really!! Flies open and the flipper disappears! Very cool!
Feels great in hand. Edge was done well.
BUT!!! There are more hot spots on this thing than you can believe.
The lock button will chew your thumb up. Hard to unlock.....after about a thousand cycles.
The back corner of the presentation side seems to be ground to a very sharp edge and is VERY uncomfy.
I wish they let ZT do the build because the lock is awesome!!
The one I got is not worth the $40.

Darn. I have one on the way. My first Kershaw in a decade. :(

Don't be dismayed just yet, Spy...

Joe knows knives, and I trust his judgment. But on the other hand, other hands like mine are different than his and may not be so subject to hot spots and rough edges.

Also, the sheer number of knives that get shoved off the assembly line at Kershaw means that Joe may have gotten one with a stiff lock. You may just come back to this thread and tell us that you don't have any of those issues at all.

Joe, you're right as rain about one thing.... ZT should really have built this one.

IMG_2798.JPG I'm hoping you feel differently SS. I was really looking forward to this one......mainly for the lock and the flick factor.
Tried to get a decent pic of the worst hot spot. This is the rear 'tip' of the presentation side scale.
You can see the shiny spot.....that thing is SHARP!! Almost looks like they were trying to put an edge there!!
I wish I knew you were interested SS.....I would've sent you mine for a couple weeks to check out before you bought one.
The lock is really cool! It makes some awesome snicks and I have absolutely no play in any direction and the action is slick as snot!!
Looking forward to what you think of it!
Joe

I bought one of these as they were first released, and even posted a video on the knife, which was mostly positive. But as time has gone on, there has been an increasing amount of blade play. To eliminate the side-to-side play, I tried to tighten the pivot, but unfortunately it only spun in place. Sadly, while the pivot pin is the "D" shape to prevent it from spinning in place, the actual holes drilled in the handles are circular, so as a result it spins anyways. It is like the Chinese factory only got half the memo. I actually had to use a dremel to create a notch in the show side of the pivot, so I could use a flat head screwdriver to hold the show side screw in place as I twisted from the back. There is also a ton of loc-tite in the pivot as well, so heat needed to be applied to loosen it up. I have not figured out a way to tackle the up/down play, but it was reduced a bit once I was able to tighten the side-side play.

I still enjoy the action, but this is no replacement for my Kershaw RAM.

Good to know Joe, always good to keep it real. It a $40 knife still after all.

Man, that would be sick to get a hawk lock on a ZT I'm pretty sure ZT is already working on one for 2018!

Now that would be amazing!!!

I'm with Joe. I bought this one as, essentially, a toy to flip and drop closed. Which it would do great except for the irritation of the lock. I hope this doesn't discourage them from more Hawk Lock models, as the action is probably the best I've had on washers and the other Hawk Locks I've had haven't been nearly as annoying to work.

Hey IM!!
Which other knives have you had with the Hawk lock?? Would love to pick up another couple with it!

I've been carrying the hell out of my Link since I bought it. Have not tried this one yet.
Looks nice.
Joe, are you saying the flipper has a sharp edge on it?
Scratch that..the presentation side. Got it ;)

The Kershaw RAM was an absolute gem. I also had an 0500, but I gifted it to a friend when he graduated from the police academy. I was going to buy a replacement, but they DCed it too soon. :(

Can't say I'm a fan of the design, but googling it has shown me a bunch of different budget Kershaws I'd love to get my hands on now :D

Which Link? I picked one up on the cheap, can't say I like the grip at all (got the blackwash blade/mauve-ish grey handle)

Yeah, IM... the RAM is one of those I keep an eye out for just in case one of these Cabelas stores has one gathering dust.

No luck so far, however.

Want one but not by Kershaw.

Dear ZT:

3.75 - 4"
0.14 Blade stock. Make it have a thin edge please! Not a fan of how thick ZT edges are.
Don't grind in the swedge
Ceramic KVT
204P 20CV M390 or Elmax / S35VN for the cheaper version
Titanium and G10 or Carbon Fiber Construction
Get rid of the first peak in the handle
Good pocket clip
$200 - $300+- ?

Boom! ZT customer wants

Dear Kershaw,

Take the induction and blend it with the Kershaw link.

Drop the induction blade for a link blade.
Upgrade the steel to 14c28n
Hawk lock FTW
Keep the hidden flipper choil design.
Slim down the handles
Give us the parkerized Link pocket clip
Street price at or below $60
Blackwash the blade if you want to get fancy but skip the two tone.

Thanks Kershaw. :D
