Kershaw Induction, I can't believe I want one! Haha

View attachment 748877 I'm hoping you feel differently SS. I was really looking forward to this one......mainly for the lock and the flick factor.
Tried to get a decent pic of the worst hot spot. This is the rear 'tip' of the presentation side scale.
You can see the shiny spot.....that thing is SHARP!! Almost looks like they were trying to put an edge there!!
I wish I knew you were interested SS.....I would've sent you mine for a couple weeks to check out before you bought one.
The lock is really cool! It makes some awesome snicks and I have absolutely no play in any direction and the action is slick as snot!!
Looking forward to what you think of it!
Joe
So is this another "missed hit" by Kershaw? It could've been great except...x y z....seems to be my experience with the Kershaws I've checked out lately.

Indeed, Joe... but some aren't a clear miss, they're getting a piece of it. Close but no cigar, maybe.

I have a Zing, an Oso Sweet and a Volt II sitting here. They are decent, and I only picked them up because my local sporting goods store puts them on sale now and then. And when the price dips to under $20, it becomes worth the cash to me. It's certainly better than picking up a gas station offering from Pakistan or such, but not to the point where I find it worth full asking price.

But dang it if I don't find myself muttering those things to myself... "Man, if they'd only have done this...." "Why didn't they use this..."

Oh well, the warranty is still top notch, and Kershaw's customer service fits the bill. Now if the damn knife just had THIS instead of THAT.... ;)

Yep, a perfectly serviceable design... with enough flaws and substandard materials to render it useless.
Well said...sent it into KAI twice, they sent back a brand new knife to me and it had the same problem...blade rubbing the scales

This one rubs as we speak. And the clip? More paper clip than knife clip.

I mean, I get it... these are produced for big box stores, and not discerning knife knuts. They make a big ol' pile of cash by providing these by the trillion, and the Wally Worlds, Big-5s and Dick's stores make another big ol' pile of cash by selling them off their shelves. If I were a big knife company, I wouldn't leave that market sitting idle either.

But dammit, I'm close to enjoying it.

Aw well. Thankfully there's plenty of Kershaw models out there for me that do work just fine.

Kershaw could just get rid of this garbage and bring back the ram....
This. I was so excited for the hawk lock. I have a ram and love it. The induction looks great, but in hand feels like a POS. The plastic over the hawk lock makes it feel so cheap, oh, and mine has something rattling around in there.

It's a shame, cuz it's one of their cooler designs and the flipper works great(but not quite as great as the ram). But why wouldn't they have put this in their 60-80 price range throw g10 on the handles like the RAM and do it well and use 14cr28? They have enough crappy plasticity stuff.

Funny you mentioned the Oso Sweet...notorious problems with that model as well.

mine was/is perfect

Wow I was really thinking about getting an induction being I can't find a ram on the market to save my life. Now I'm seriously doubting myself. I know there isn't a lot to be expected from this category but the videos I have watched had me thinking the same as the OP. "Awesome flip easy free fall close perfect fidget knife." I'm just left wondering/hoping that these few are just lemons and not that the ones on video aren't the few gems out there.

All the YT reviews are not glowing......check out Kevin Cleary's vid.

Got mine minutes ago. So only cut paper.

You can immediately see what Joe is talking about with the hot spots. They made some weird decisions, there.

However, mechanically mine is outstanding for a $40 knife. Flips great with nice jimping on the flipper tab. Lockup is solid. No blade play. Centering is great. And the lock ... the lock is smooth as silk.

They must be having QC issues. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

EDIT: Well, "smooth as silk" is an exaggeration. By coincidence, I happen to have a midtech MUDD on me at the moment. THAT Hawk Lock is smooth as silk. The Kershaw Hawk Lock is "smooth as $40 silk." Which is to say, it works really well with no resistance but you can feel the action.
