Kershaw Junk Yard Dawg Pictures...

Ryan, there is a nice thread on the JYD linked in Steven's first post, and to answer your question it will be Sandvik 13C26.

Good looking knife, needs thumb studs though, and less pictures on the body. But, good looking knife, good price, and good company.

I really like the clip, might be too "tactical" for some, but for me, on a black pair of pants, i think it would look really cool.

Mirror-Saw, have you ever seen the custom Junkyard Dawg? You may want to, as it explains where all the pictures on the body come from. This is a VERY faithful reproduction of the JYD (with, of course, some refinements missing). You can see it in Thomas W's current avatar.

Looks like a LOT of knife for an MSRP of ~$60, and VERY cool!!!

I wonder how difficult it would be to remove the design from the scales. I love the model, but I can't stand the desgins on the handle slabs.

I love the shape of the handle and blade, and I love the fact that the blade has no studs or writting on it.

I am not sure about the "decals", but I think I could live with them. Will there be a version without them?

If Kershaw made a high-end JYD with no decals, I'd be all over it.

I agree with the design being a little...out of place..I guess you could call it. The knife is nice looking, but I think it would be a little better if its handle was free of the rivet and seam look, and the logos, etc on the front and the back.

I love that blade shape.

The clip looks like it may be a little "in your face" due to it's width.

did I already say that I love that blade shape?

I do. :)

sweet knife!

Peter

This one, and the larger version should be available in the fall of 06 (Sept), and you will be able to find it at all your favorite knife outlets.

There are some fine examples of Tim's JYD (and others) in the gallery section of his site.

Verr-ry Interesting!

I hate to go against the grain, but it does nothing for me. I know my Mom told to keep silent when I have nothing good to say, but dang! I must be missing something when everyone else is giving it such praise. Sorry.

Hey Guys...

Nice looking knife,, but if anyone hasn't said it yet..

The GrafX are Frigging Gay....

I wouldn't buy it, no matter how much I like the knife,,because of them..
Looks like a Chin made Bin knife with GrafX on it...

I guess nothing bead blast or some black spray paint won't fix!! Spray paint Ain't much better,, but sure better than whats on it now...

I'm not sure why companys do silly a$$ stuff like that...

Don't mean to offend anyone,,but holy cow...
Other than that it's a Frigging sweet design...

For those that don't like it, please, don't buy it!

No production knife company is making knives that appeal to everyone at the same time these days, and you are certainly not going to broadly widen your consumer base by doing the SOS thing unless you are Buck or Gerber and big box stores are your lifeblood.

While Thomas and I have argued and agreed on many issues over the years, the Kershaw Trooper is probably the best knife that they have ever made, truly legendary, and it has been around for over 20 years. Many of you don't even know what it is, probably, and might not like it if you did.

Kershaw is pushing the bar, in a unique way, and even if you don't like the JYD(fwiw, I like it enough, but am going to Garssonize the blade), you have to recognize that it is different, it is affordable, it is good quality, it fills a niche, and that is about all you, as a consumer can ask for. Some people drive Harleys and some people drive mopeds. As long as everybody is happy, that is what it is all about.

But as far a taking this knife and making it without the graphics, no, I don't think that will happen. Could, but I doubt it. That would be a violation of the spirit of the knife.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

The graphics are secondary to the performance of the knife IMO. I'd buy it. I'd carry it, and I'd use it. the first thing I'd do is take the graphics off, and I can deal with the riveted seam fuselage look. Then I would take it, and put it to work. that's what a knife is for. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I am really pleased with the way this one came out.

I am glad that peoples opinions have differd on the bomber pattern. Some people love it, others hate it. This is true for some of the most succesfull products out there. That tells me that this knife has style. It may not be everyones style, but it has style none the less. I am glad that it will stand out in the sea of bead blast and plastic handles that are in this price range.

If you are going to be at Blade, stop by and check it out, if the handle treatment has you on the fence, then the flipper action might change your mind.

Hey Guys...

Don't get me wrong,, the knife has a cool shape and a nice design..
I'm sure it's a Great knife,, but the GrafX are Gaudy as hell..

Makes the knife look cheap and dimestore..

As for the Harley reference.. It's kind of like putting Harley stickers, and cheap Walmart pinstriping on a Harley...

It may appeal to some,, but I think most people if had the oppertunity would opt for a plain version without the tags...

It's kind of like a Hot Chick with a "Tramp Stamp" on her ass...
Yaa some may like it,,but some think it looks like hell...

Why mess with perfection...

Personally I think you'll lose more customers than you will make because of it...
Just my opinion though...

Again Great looking design....

I agree with Steven's comments (this time), and Tim's as well. Manufacturers can't make a pattern that everyone loves from head to toe, just look at the commentary on every new knife that gets a thread started on it.
Now I do have to say I am surprised at the harshness of your comments Normark, as a custom sheath maker I would hope you would show a little more professional courtesy with your criticism. To not like the graphics in one thing, your commentary is quite another. Certainly I would expect more from someone within the industry.

Thomas, I really, really like the knife, graphics included, but Normark is right to say what he thinks, and say it clearly. Who would ever want to hear a positive opinion from someone who never had a negative opinion?

If professional courtesy means something other than honesty, it turns into shilling, which the JYD doesn't need. It stands on its own, even if some people don't like the style.
