Kershaw JYD I air force markings

IMO because the Shallot (my EDC of choice the past several months, just an incredible knife) has a plain, beadblasted handle that matches the blade very nicely, I'd be inclined to leave it as it is.

However, if you were to polish both handle and blade, well.... :)

BTW ... do you think you could post a pic of the JYD and Shallot together for size comparison? I have a JYD II I really like and have considered a small JYD, but interested in how it compares size-wise to a knife like the Shallot, which fits me almost ideally. Thx in advance.

hmm.... I don't have one right now with both next to each other, but here are all the Kershaws for comparison:

I tell ya what though, I'll take one when I get home with the newly pimped out JYD and Shallot.

Man! Dat's Chiny!

Looks real good...

Reminds me of a polished up drill rifle. Hey, maybe you can form the first KershawDrill Team. Really, great job. Keep tweakin'!

thank you for all the positive comments! Especially since this is my first serious knife-pimping attempt, i'm quite pleased. I'm thinking about a way to make the "rivets" black - maybe something involving a dremel? Or a heat implement? Any suggestions on that?

Really want to pimp out my Shallot now but wanna do something different...

Well ... this would be a more serious project, but I had the thought a while back that the Shallot would look really nice if you cut some curved grooves in the handle with a milling machine -- a grooved pattern kind of like those on a Kershaw Groove's blade is the best way to explain what I envisioned, but of course sharp, milled grooves. Could have practical value as well, giving a little extra traction on the handles if you like that.

Dog of War - as per your request:

I brought the finish back down to 400 grit wet... put some of the Junkyard back in the Dog, if you will. Plus the mirror polish gets slippery WAY too quick when you're using it, and this is too sweet of a knife to just look at.

no boost,
That looks REALLY good! Excellent work. It reminds me of my Vapor project earlier in the week;)

It looks like I should using the bench grinder for polishing on my next project. I used the Dremel, but your polish job looks a little better. Again, good work.

I'll be doing this on more knives as well, since I really like the way they look with polished scales.

Jon - I saw your vapor thread! Nice work on that knife.

I just didn't like the way it felt in hand with a mirror finish. But yeah if you want to get it nice 'n shiny, a 6" variable speed buffer works wonders.

Really appreciate the comparison pic, No_b00st. Looks like it would be a mite small for my hands ... but it's sure a pretty knife with that polish! :)

No_b00st,

Dude that's a really really nice job. I didn't think I would like that knife with a highly polished handle but I really do. I personally think it looks way better than the factory finish.
