Kershaw Keno Onion fixed blade?

I saw it at a local dealer over the weekend. Looks a lot the Whirlwind folder, but it's a fixed blade! Blade steel is AUS-8A.

I really have to get one of these, but the crappy leather sheath will have to be replaced with kydex.

Does anybody know what model this is? The product code ends in 704 and the shop assistant referred to it as a "704", but there should be a name for this??

If it's the knife I have pictured below, it's the Ken Onion Echo, product code is 1070.

I agree, it's a pretty high speed little hunting knife. Very lightweight, comfortable in the hand, and attractive. I'll also agree that the sheath sucks and needs to be replaced with a Kydex or Concealex one. Maybe Blade-Tech will offer one if the demand is high enough, or Normark / Eric N. from Canada.

It's a cool looking knife overall. I agree with Spark, the sheath is pretty pitiful. It leaves much to be desired. With a knife like this, Kydex seems to be the only way to go.

I sure hope the handle feels a bit better in the hand than the WHirlwind handle does.

I've sold several in my shop and have had very positive feedback on the knife. It was use to skin a small bull moose and the customer was very happy with the results. I think the sheath is a good usable sheath that fits the knife well and if the snap is snapped closed it can't fall out even upside down. I think the knife is just so nice it makes the sheath look cheap.
The price is great for this knife even if the sheath isn't quite up to the same level as the knife.

Thanks Spark. Cool pic :)

So it's called the Echo... I learnt something new today.

:D :D :D

Got one on Saturday. You should check out the recurved edge - it's SCARY sharp!

Sheath does not appear to be too bad after all, but I'll definitely replace with kydex later on.

1) Are the scales removeable/replaceable??

2) Is is it Aus-8 or Aus-6? The 1sks says 8 and the KnifeCenter says 6 . . . which is right??

If the scales are replaceable and the steel is Aus8 then I would be in for it!!

Hey Jason...

I thought you left already...

Did you get the little care package I sent you ???:)

Drop me a note Dude..

Eric,
I sent an email (My server must have goofed!) to you an even posted a BIG THANKS that I will repeat here!!! You are da' man . . . I love that little sheath and am using it as a quick detach keyring. It breaks apart to let me separate car keys on the sheath side from house/work keys on the tool side . . . awesome!

I'll try shooting you another email! I leave tomorrow for our first training stint!

The blade steel is AUS8 we wanted to make an affordable yet great hunting knife. I think we did ,don't let the price fool you this knife works, especially in the field. The semi-skinner blade,in my opinion is the best overall shape for hunting but only if done correctly,This one is.The AUS-8 is a great steel for the field ,comparable to ATS-34 but in my opinion better.
I agree though the sheath sucks. I think you guys need to call kershaw and let Doug flagg know you don't like the sheath.(I'm gonna get in real trouble for this).Maybe if we complain loud enough they will change it.
Otherwise thanks for the posative feedback.

By the way, what kind of sheath would be your first choice? Remember it has to be cost effective.

Aloha!!! Ken Onion

Hey Eric - you have mail! :)

BTW - the Echo I received has a full flat grind - very nice, but I am wondering if it was an earlier productionrun, or is it the current production or is it just a fluke?

I once knew a vet who hunted. I figured he shot little kitties in the paw just to drum up business.

Likewise, I figure Normark is responsible for all of the crappy sheaths on production knives, just so he could corner the custom consealex market! Normark, I'm on to you... The crappy Nimravus sheath, it has your dirty finger prints all over it! And the cheap Yari sheath? Yep, that must be you too...

Where's one fo them red coated, horse riding, big hat police persons when you need one? :)

I heard that Kershaw has a couple of Ken Onion fixed blade models other than the Echo..... anybody got more info on this? Pics?

Just got one of these Echo's today. Paid less than $30 at a local brick-and-mortar. I think this is the damn best value around - who cares about an ugly sheath, for a little more Normark can probably make a waaaay nicer sheath anyway.

Buy one, you'll be happy!

So are the handle scales removable or not? If they are I'll get one!
