The Knockout is a fantastic model from Kershaw, you’re gonna love it. Blade shape is great for slicing and its thin enough to be a larger sized knife that carries remarkably well.

Now, I'm working on figuring out how to get it like a razor with my SharpMaker. I'm thinking I'll use the 40° then move over to the 30° unless folks have other ideas, welcome to good advice.

It's not dull right now, but ... it surely can be a lot sharper.

I like the heft. I have very large hands and this feels very good in the hand.

I don’t get hung up on edge geometry or anything like that. I just use my knives as they come from factory and when they get too jacked up, I’ll throw them on my KME and usually just do whatever the angle is already set at.

I know many folks here really get into angles and thinning out stock and the like, and that’s cool, no knock on that flow whatsoever, but I just like to roll not worrying about that kind of stuff. You do you and enjoy the Knockout

Hah...well said. That KME looks like a nice step up from the SharpMaker. I don't obsess much over it either. I know it is a fun and relaxing hobby to sharpen knives, but I don't get way in the deep end.

When a knife is sharp, I use it until it is dull, then I resharpen it.

OK, thanks, will give it a go.

I have the full range of rods: diamond to extra fine, do you suggest I start on the diamond and use them all, then go to the 40....and with the 40, do just use the medium rods, to extra fine?

Still getting the hang of it.

The Knockout is a nice model. I like how thin it is, and the deep carry clip. The blade has a nice full belly and decent tip. The SpeedSafe is a polarizing feature, but I don’t mind it too much. It can be fun. I also like how the scales will “Boba Fett” over time, and the color/blade options.

I have always felt like the handle is a bit small, as it seems to squeeze your fingers together a bit in the hammer grip. I have also found on all three versions I have that after a few cuts, the lock bar travels all the way over and sticks. This makes me question how long the knife will stay locked up solid over a period of time. That said, so far I have not developed rock yet.

As far as sharpening goes, you can stick with the 30 degrees through the full range of grits to sharpen the whole edge bevel. The 40 degree setting can be used to set a micro-bevel. This bevel can help stabilize your edge and make it a bit stronger.

Anywho, nice knife.

For the overwhelmingly vast majority of knife owners the SharpMaker is a great tool and will provide them a razor-sharp knife. They will not obsess over the edge of their blades like you will.

That's ok.

Don't feel like you have to prove or justify your choice to me. I really, and truly, have been there and done that...and I just don't care.

"Still getting the hang of it", or "Been there, done that"?

I'm confused...

Guess I got lucky on mine it was shaving sharp out of the box, as a matter of fact the only knife I've received that was sharper was a Microtech LUDT, it was straight razor sharp.

LOL - “Boba Fett” over time. I love that.:cool:

Yes, I didn't think it was all that sharp...until I tried it out. Holy cow! It is super sharp. :)

depends on whether you need to rebevel. If so, start with the 30 degree(15 each side) with diamonds until you get a wire edge. Work down through medium, fine, extra fine. You can micro bevel with the 40 degree side - I don't. If you do microbevel, I would only do 5 very light strokes each side on the extra fine stones. If you cannot get ride of the wire edge, you may have to strop.

Thanks I guess? Let us know your thoughts on the knife once you get some use on it.

Aren’t you the fella that sharpened a BK9 using the sharp maker? You’d think the Knockout would be a piece of cake.
Based on the contradictory statements when it comes to sharpening, I'd gather we've got a case of someone who just likes to say stuff on the internet.

Oh well, at least he has a nice knife! Hopefully he can get some real use on it and tell us what he thinks!
