Kershaw Leak (about Tyrade)!

Kershaw_Tyrade_1850.jpg

That is a great looking piece! The handle has similar contours to my Mini-Mojo (only bigger) and the blade profile resembles the JYD's or ZT's.

What is / how do they do that (whatever it is) on the blade? And the stuff on the handle - is it rubber / santoprene? I've got a CRKT Wild Weasel with santoprene inserts that make it very tough to carry in a pocket. They grip a little too well going in and out. In fact, I've had one of the inserts pop out because it hung up on the inside pocket seam. Columbia River fixed it for free of course. But, if that is a grippy rubber type material on this handle, I can see potential for the same kind of problem.
Thomas? Anybody?

The Tyrade has a composite blade made of 154CM and the edge being CPM-D2. The two steels are welded together with copper (in this case), while being HT'd. The overlay is carbon fiber. It is a titanium frame lock anodized in gold.

More details later.

Sounds (and looks) amazing.
Should we assume its a SpeedSafe opener?

The blade is incredible.
The shape is nice! Makes me feel like I'm a step closer to getting a bigger Mini Mojo/Mojiito!

Now we just need the rest of the specs and a way to guarantee that we'll get the first ones that ship.

Just curious, what the MSRP on this bad boy is? I have to figure out what I have to sell.

please tell me there will be lower cost versions of the tyrade? i know that beauty has to be expensive. but it is bad a$$. ive never seen a blade like that. im amazed at what can be done on a production level these days.

Wow, just wow. That knife is not only beautiful but has awesome steel (twice!), wow.
Thomas, I have to say I appreciate the recent trend of stud-less knives. The only knife I own that still has a thumbstud is the Rainbow Chive, all the others had them ground off during sharpening (or removed beforehand). Not only does this mean I won’t have more thumbstuds to grind off, but the knife overall looks much cleaner without them. +1 in the looks department.
I would like to see more stud-lock knives, those studs stay out of the way. Plus I like the lock.

I'll second the wish for more studlocks!

Though don't get me wrong, I love the new Tyrade. Can't wait to see it in person!

I also like to see more stud locks. Best lock in the industry! You should exercise your advantages over competitors (even you ahead in many other terms...).

Thanks, Vassili.

yeah, i have a speed bump and a mini mojo. everytime i pick up another knife im always trying to close it with the thumb stud and am dissapointed.

Wow! Found the pictures and boy does that look like one helluva knife. This news about your awards has shifted my head. Great work you've done to get here!

Is this going to be a limited edition or low number production run? How big is it? I prefer smaller knives with 3 inch or less blades so that I can carry them pretty much anywhere so hopefully it is small enough to actually carry and use....

Nice... I can only imagine it will be some time before we see one for sale and I bet it will look very different. Was the copper choice in the blade aesthetic or was there a practical reason the material worked or was used?

hate to burst the bubble, but the Tyrade is a big boy. 3 5/8" blade. not small at all.

The first pic in this thread shows Thomas holding the Tyrade, and Tim holding a JYD II next to it. Looks pretty substantial.
