Kershaw Leek opened in my pocket and stabbed me.

I was always in the mindset that the Leek was perfectly safe in the pocket. I love the knife and have many different models. It’s pretty sweet.

This morning I had a carbon fiber version in CPM154 in my left pocket with the factory clip it‘s stock location; tip down, left pocket carry (spine against seam).

I was not doing anything other than moving around the house. I am wearing cargo shorts. I reached into my right side pocket, and when pulling out my wallet I felt something “bite” my left leg. I reached into my left pocket to see if a insect or something was in my pocket. I
felt nothing but the handle of my Leek.

I took a step and got “bit” again in the same area. At this point I freaked out thinking a centipede was in my pants and dropped trou in a hurry.

Nothing. Reached in my left pocket and low and behold a half-open Leek. And on my left outer thigh a nice little stab wound.

I guess I will be using the lock from now on!

I also want to stress how it’s a good idea to ensure whichever pocket you use, the knife spine is against the pocket seam. I remember a story not long ago that a guy’s Leek cut his man parts. I had sorta always chalked that one up as BS, but now I wonder...

I’ve talked about this same problem here like 5 years ago, except with a Kershaw Scallion. Same problem, except mine was locked and being tip down I got poked in the side. The knife was clipped to my pocket and the blade was opened up right on top. I would never carry an assisted knife again after that, especially one that’s tip down (who the hell even wants that trash anyways…).

I can hear the ambulance chasers pulling up...

"You may be entitled to compensation..."

"Your honor, the Leek caused my client to spring a leak..."

Sorry for your (blood) loss.

BTW, for the record, I hate assisted knives. Always have.

I have one if anybody wants to buy it!

the only time my leek opened by itself was when I dropped it on my hardwood floor, luckily no damage to the knife or floor... but it sure made me take notice

... I plan to 'un-assist' it, but never get around to it ;)

I had a PM2 open inside my pocket before. It didn't break skin but I definitely felt the bite you talked about. Not sure how that came about but it never did again.

I carried a scallion everyday for about 10 years I think, (the lock broke and I didn’t fix)and it came open a few times in my pocket. Never cut me though.

I couldn’t tolerate the lock so it’s gone. Instead I ground off half the flipper tab to make it “safer”, but was still concerned about an unwanted opening. I moved on since then for my pocket knife needs but the Leek still sits on my dresser for impromptu uses like cutting loose threads.
