Kershaw Leek replacement

Speaking from personal experience of owning a leek, I moved up to a benchmade valet 485 and I love it as a small EDC. Increase your budget by only $20 and at $170 you get a benchmade high quality knife with full steel liners, g10 scales and m390 super steel blade. It seems pricy for a sub 3" knife but its pure functionality and incredibly durable and will last you a lifetime.

I'm bummed that they're not assisted... I really like that feature.

Just to recap... Looking for:

- similar size to leek, not much bigger
- flipper, assisted
- safety
- more robust than leek
- under $200

Have you had a non assisted ZT before? No need for the assist, seriously. The 0450 flys out with authority, faster than my 0770CF that is assisted. Also, non assisted knives do not need the cumbersome safety.

BM mini Stryker or 530/531. Spyderco Ambitious. Kershaw Shallot or Blur. Get away from needing a flipper, really opens up the possibilities.

Can't believe it took until post #23 for someone to mention the Delica!

I used to carry Kershaw exclusively and couldn't imagine anything that wasn't assisted open. Carried a Leek for quite some time. As someone else mentioned, if you don't limit yourself to assisted open and flippers, you really open up a whole new world of great knives.

I spent a while looking for something to replace my Leek after losing it, and never felt satisfied until I found the Delica. It's my most frequently carried now. I tried other knives but never felt like I could get the kind of tip control I had with the leek. The Delica is the closest I've found.

You didn't say if you use a serrated blade or not, well maybe you did. my bad, but I have found for the type of cutting you might be doing, a serrated blade makes a difference and helps preserve the cutting edge of the main part of the blade. As far as a brand or dif type, there are many great ideas above.....

Agreed. A pox on that damned assisted flipper.

Al Mar Hawk Ultralight with Talon blade.

The now discontinued Spyderco Caly3 is what took a Leek out of my rotation. The handle is exactly the same size but you get 1] much better steel 2] much better lock 3] greater safety 4] better quality. I love this knife.
My second (strongly recommended) is a Delica. Almost the same size, better steel, better lock, safer, etc. Plus you can get FRN (lighter) in your favorite color, Titanium, or stainless. You can have a choice of VG10, VG10 Damascus, ZDP-189, or H1 (will not ever rust) steels. Choice is good.
