I handled one of these kershaws at cabelas the other day and was interested in buying one.
I have several of them. Great EDC knife. Good blades, solid lock up. Some people will critisize the delicate point on the standard blade, but if you don't use your knife for taskes a knife is not ment for (prybar, screwdriver, etc.) you should have no trouble and its great for delicate tasks. I've never bent or damaged the tip on any of mine.
My question is which metal to go with.
They are really all good. I carried one of their standard steel (13C26) blades for years and was always pleased with the sharpness and edge retention (admittedly, I am not a heavy-duty user). I've got an example of the newer S30V and 13C26/CPM-D2 composite blades now, and they are a noticable step up in blade quality.
I'm interested in the composition cpm-d2 but not sure if the two disimilar metals together might cause an issue down the road.
I like the composite blade for the coolness factor, but the CPM-D2 is definetly harder and holds an edge much longer than the old 13C26 does. THe only downside I have seen is that it is a bit harder to sharpen, but once it is shapened it
stays sharp! I have not heard of anyone having problems with the composite blades coming apart, so I don't think that's anything to worry about.
I'm not a metal expert, but I have the cheapest version with the 440. It showed some rust specks!
Any stainless steel will rust under the right conditions. Stain
less just rusts
less than regular carbon steel, its not totally rust proof.
