im a Kershaw collector looking to buy my first Spyderco to see how i like them.....ive never even held a spyderco in my hand before so not sure what knife to get. Was hoping someone could help point me in the right direction. i like bigger knives, G-10 handles, non- serrated, and something i can get open fast.

You can't go wrong with the military or paramility for those criteria :)
Good sized G10 scale handles and butter smooth deployment.

I too am mostly a Kershaw/ZT guy but have bought a few Spydercos over the years. The one I really took to and love is the Paramilitary 2. I love the ergos, blade shape, weight, and the compression lock has become my favorite of any knife I own. It is the easiest to close one handed of any knife I own also. Super smooth opening and closing too on par with or better than the Kershaw RAM. It's just the closest to perfect of any locking production knife I have come across so far.

Don't you love it when you press the lock down and can just let the blade slide on its own back into the handle? A beautiful thing.

Also look into the manix series. The manix xl is beefy and very fast deploying. Great knives for the money and great entry spydercos.

Exactly one of the reasons I fell in love with it lol. It has kicked almost all of my other locking knives out of the rotatation for the most part since I got the PM2. I still carry the Knockout and ZT0350 from time to time. I sold or gifted away my other Spyderco knives I had because they just didnt do it for me.

I also am a kershaw fan, but I also buy Spyderco's. I also love PM2 But picked up a chokwe recently I see there are still a few around, but they won't keep making them this year from what I understand. Maybe it is a love / hate design, but I find it extremely simple and comfortable, and they are around for about 130 (I should have waited..), not bad for a ti framelock, definitely my favorite since the sage 2. Or you can't go wrong with a delica or endura, they are GREAT knives, but if you are only collecting, grab the sprints and discontinued of course... Just be careful, once the spyderco's start, they don't stop, I just got my first damascus Kershaw, and I am already looking at pre orders for a new spyderco ...

The Paramilitary 2 and Manix 2 are both great knives and would make awesome first Spyderco knives.
My personal favorite would be the Chokwe as mentioned above.
It's just a great knife. It looks weird but it's interesting, ergonomic, and a great EDC.

Most of my collection is Kershaw too. So you're probably used to frame locks and liner locks. Go for a Sage I or a Sage II. They're both flawless. The Tenacious aint bad either.

I love my PM2s. That said, you might look at the Southard if you are into flippers.

I used to be a kershaw guy years ago, although what I own has slimmed I only have I kershaw and 5 spyderco knives

I recently picked up a manix 2 and wish I would've got one sooner, it has taken over my para 2 pocket spot

Yes instead of being a liner or frame lock they would lock up much like an axis lock or hawk lock.

Here's a size reference pic with a kershaw I'm sure you have

If you like Kershaw, then you probably like flippers. I'll suggest the Southard. (Though it might be out of your price range.)

I was going to suggest the southard, but i was beat to it. The southard is one great knife, definitely would be pleased. The flipper is super smooth and shoots out real fast.

i just looked at the southard......looks nice but has big price tag lol is it made in Taiwan???????? seen it written on blade. if so thats way to much for a non american made knife!!!!! wouldnt think on spending that when i could back American workers by getting a ZT

I can understand that , but sadly if you think about it kershaw/zt is in essence owned buy a foreign company (sorry if I'm wrong) that employs and builds knives in America, then you have spyderco that is an American company with some production knives that are made in Taiwan
Or a foreign built GM or Ford, lines are so blurred now a days
