Kershaw "Needs Work" a "weapon"?

...but the darksiders told us thinner...is...better...

Sure. I don't have a knife that out cut my Needs Work. It's simply the best slicer. The only thing that comes fairly close is the Delica FFG. Other than that, I have yet to see a utility style pocket knife with an edge as thin as the Needs Work.

If an officer noticed it in my pocket, he'd likely notice the Glock 19 sitting right above it and be less concerned about the Kershaw.

Yeah, good for you. I'd carry a pistol, too, if only I didn't live in The Socialist Rebublic of Illinois. We and Wisconsonians... Wisconsonites?... Cheeseheads are the only two who cannot get CCW permits under any circumstances.

I dont think it is big enough for most non-knife ppl to think it is a weapon. i have had alot of my friends think i had bad intentions with knives that open fast. but that is bc they thought they were switchblades lol (my gayle bradley and waved knives ALWAYS seem to get that).

from my experiences with the police the one time i was arrested i had a knife on me and told the officer (i was drunk beyond belief and 17) he asked if i was gonna cut him and i said not unless you cut me. he laughed and took me to jail and i was processed with the knife in my pocket. the second time was a wreck and when asked if i had any weapons i told him what i had and he thought nothing more of it. granted i was being cooperative, which imo is what makes police officers usually easy to deal with. if you arent acting violent or erratic or like your pcp is kicking in you will most likely be treated like a person and your knife as a tool.

so i wouldnt worry about it. though of course cops are ppl and ppl are vastly different and laws from state to state vary but you should be safe with that kershaw pretty much everywhere.

I don't think a sheep's foot blade style is a good starting point for something to be considered a weapon.

How about the Mantis Pit Boss?

To me a knife is a tool, and one I am quite fond of. This knife is no different from any other in that respect. In the highly unlikely event I ever wanted to hurt someone, I'd use my cane.

So then by that logic, pistols, which 49 states allow one to daily carry one way or another, do not rise to the standard of being deadly weapons, since they are not rifles?

Apples and Oranges..

Wisconsin just passed concealed carry, should be in place by fall.

It's a sad, sad day when a knife is more illegal, and considered deadlier than a knife. And when a knife is viewed as a weapon specifically, and no longer a tool.

There are a few people on this board that will argue that their knives are weapons and are designed as weapons specifically.

There are more knife laws around the states than firearm laws; state firearm laws have become preempted for most states (meaning local jurisdictions can't enact different ones), but cities and counties have been allowed to keep their own local knife laws to a much greater extent.

Knife folks just aren't as numerous as a politically vocal bloc as gun folks, seems. On the brighter side, knife laws are much less enforced than gun laws, but that's still a consolation prize, not any kind of victory.

I must admit that I EDC one that has no true practical use except as a weapon.

That is fine and I have no problem with it. But when people want to advertise this fact to the non-knife people, they shouldn't be surprised at how they are treated afterwards.

i always lookd at my guns and knives as tools.

a gun is designed to put a bullet where you want it and a knife is designed to cut, whatever you want.

while some knives might be designed to cut and cleave flesh that is the intended purpose of that tool.

and infact a lot of tools (hammer, machete, axe, brushaxe, tractor, what-have-you) can be used very effectively and have been documented as doing so. It really is the intention of the user. but there isnt a way to outlaw bad intentions, at least until after the fact.

After the Ronin, Yojimbo, Yojimbo 2, and Be-Wharned, Mike Janich probably thinks the NW is a weapon :p (and maybe Dirk Pinkerton w/ the Wharning)

any knife can be a weapon, but so can most objects, cutting is just a little harder to do over blunt trauma with most things

Exactly! I was in a department meeting a few days after 9/11 when one of my more paranoid coworkers suggested that the company had lax security at the doors and someone could bring a knife into the building. I immediately told him that he was being paranoid, that I was carrying more than one deadly weapon at the moment, and that the ink pen I was holding was one of them.

Were you summarily shot? Since 9/11, people have been ridiculous with security, seemingly more with a company that would never be a target for anything but an inspection. I very much understand the desire for security, but when security impedes your job, then it is going too far.
