Hi there ! Considering to buy a new knife, for a small edc tasks, but cannot decide which one to be... I love framelocks and wide blades so one of my thoughts is about Kershaw one ton, but it's china made. On other side is the buck vantage select large, it's USA made, almoust the blade like one ton, but i think the handle is a bit thicker and zytel material (which is gonna be problem in the pocket?) . What are your recommendations? or some knife near the price point of these :)?

The Buck Vantage line is awesome. Even though the one ton and the vantage are both great knives, If I had to pick one, i'd say go with the Vantage Select.

All of these blades get my highest recommendations:
ESEE Zancudo - Light, slim, strong framelock with lots of color options ~$30
Ontario Rat Model 1 - Large, stout liner lock, lots of color options ~$30
Buck Vantage Select Large - Amazing ergonomics but flipper is kinda bad, clip is amazing, blade steel is softest of all these options $25
Kershaw/Emerson CQC-6K (if you're a righty) - Tanky, Emerson wave opener, overall just tacticool and badass $35 (Kershawguy)

Out of those options I like my CQC-6K best, it's a beast.

Absolutely agree with you mk.ultra, about the Kershaw/Emerson, it's gonna be definitely my next buy. The big problem is that i live in Bulgaria, and it's not officially on the market here, so must buy it from ebay, but I need it fast by the end of the next week. So next time, for the Cqc-6

I have the paperstone version of the Vantage Select. It is not too thick, and I like thin knives. The FRN handles will be slightly slimmer. I don't think it will chew up your pocket, if that's what you're concerned about. It's relatively slick plastic. After a little tune-up, I find it flips as well as I need it to:

The handle material you refer to is zytel, or fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN). It is a thermoplastic with glass fibers added to increase strength. I think it is a good handle material.

I don't have a One-Ton, but the blade on the Half-Ton is actually a little wider than the Large Vantage. I measure 1-1/8" on the Half-Ton and 1-1/16" on the Large Vantage. I would expect the One-Ton would be larger and wider than the Half-Ton.

I'll echo mk.ultra's recommendation on the Kershaw/Emerson CQC-6K if you're open to other suggestions. Compared to the Vantage, the CQC-6K has, IMO, better ergos, better F&F, better edge retention, stronger blade (retains the full thickness of the blade stock for half the blade width), and wave opener (both functional and kinda fun). The Vantage has a lot going for it too - deep carry clip for discrete carry, thicker and rounded handles (fills the hand a little better), and a nice high hollow ground blade (makes it an excellent slicer).

Here's the CQC-6K next to the Large Vantage. I have the Large Vantage Pro, but I believe the only differences to the Select are the blade steel (S30V vs. 420HC) and handle material (G10 vs. FRN).

If I may piggyback here as picaroon has found what he wanted, I'd like to ask a couple questions:

1. Been eyeing the One Ton myself for some time... all dealers I look at say it is a reversible clip but in pics doesn't seem like it is for left-side carry... can I reverse it for left side?

2. If I picked up a Emerson CQC-6K do you think I'd have screw troubles switching the clip? Posters here have had a few problems with it. I do wish the blade was just a smidge longer, 3.5 is nice. Having said that I also like the look of Kershaw's Thistle and it is only 3.25...

The pics I've seen of the One-Ton look like it is right-handed carry only, but reversible in the sense that you can set it for tip up or down. As for the CQC-6K, it looks like right now, the screws are sized for the frame lock scale side only. I'd expect this would get sorted out soon enough.

I have had poor luck with the Vantage lineup, because Buck doesn't seem to care if the blade rubs the liner. I sent one back because it rubbed way more than I could adjust away, and of my 4 other Vantages, two of them also rub badly. This is a known issue with the Vantage knives. But I have 2 that are just fine, so you never know what you will get. But it irks me that Buck doesn't seem to get it. Just keeping it real. Maybe consider a pre-owned Vantage from a trusted BF seller, who can attest that the blade is centered.

Thanks Flarp I will wait.

Buck vantage. Nice slim and a flipper, you can also do a poormans wave mod, usa made which by the way you saide chinese man seems like a plus for you. Overall its a great knife and i say get it, i play with it daily at my job we sell the vantages at my job.

I just got what I think is a pretty much brand new Kershaw One Ton at a pawn shop for $10.00!!!
So far I am impressed with it, the only problem is there is a fair amount of rub marks towards the tip, looks like the blade is a little off center and rubbing against the inside on the handle. :(
I am trying to decide if it is worth it to send it to Kershaw, I really like how thin it is, perfect for slacks!!!

Vantage Select Large would be my choice. $25 and with a nice blade, comfortable, and thin. It's part of my rotation.
