Kershaw outcast

I had it strapped to my back pack and the handle broke in the back of a truck. It is better than nothing, but for the price i paid i should have just gotten a ka-bar cutlass or something else with a full tang and a softer steel. And what is up with the crooked clip?

And i also couldnt stand the rattling noise created by the geometry of the kydex sheath. It only lasted about 6 months for me.

This is somewhat of a shock to me. As a kydex sheathmaker I can tell you that the factory sheath is about as nice as any production kydex sheath I've ever seen and much nicer than most. Like anything mass produced there will be slight variations but overall I've found the factory Outcast sheath to be excellent.

The Kershaw Outcast SUCKS! mine chipped with regular use, and then after a while longer the dumb little part right next to the butt of the handle broke off!(not full tang, btw, its plastic inside. Also, I thought the D2 steel would hold an edge for at least a little while, and it didnt work out. and my final gripe about the knife is that the clip (back part of the tip) was crooked for some reason. Major disappointment.

I got a good deal from one of our very own on a factory seconds (I'm pretty sure it's a factory second). I can't wait to get it so I can start playing around with it.

Got the Outcast in yesterday and had a chance to play around with it. I like it. I wish the sheath rode about 4-6" lower but I really like the handle, it super comfortable. I battened through some oak with little effort and then hacked away at one of the smaller pieces to create fir texture. I also cut up some pretty thick cardboard with it too. It did alright and kept it's edge. I could see how convexing the edge would be a benefit and turn the Outcast into a real mean cutting machine though. The edge is a bit thick. I'll have to work on that before I go camping next weekend.

I bought myself an Outcast for my birthday a few years ago. Although the edge was fairly obtuse it was the first knife that I could slice 1" manilla with one swing. Like most I took it to my belt sander to make it more acute, and have added a turkish knot to the end of the handle. It is also one of my favorite pictures of what I used in vacation in BC:

Well, it's defiantly mine now. I was just out in the garage giving it the convex treatment and when I got done I sprayed it down with some liquid wrench to wipe it down. As I was trying to clean close to the edge the sucker cut right through about three layers of rag and deep into my thumb. Bled like a sonofagun.

At least I know it's sharp now. :D
