My brother is thinking of purchasing a Kershaw Outcast.
Anyone know the thickness of the blade and what hardness the steel is at?

A. G. Russell's site lists it as 57-59. He usually gets his info directly from the manufacturer.

I've been thinking of picking one of those up, as well, just to have something to swing around in the back yard.

It's a pretty good chunk of steel, but how thick I don't know.

I tinkered with mine a bit and turned it into a sick chopper.

Thickness is 3/16" on mine.
But, don't let that deter you from getting one. Some would say that is too thin for a 10" blade. Not so.
They do everything a big knife is supposed to do. It cuts well, it chops decently enough and it's size allows it to do all those things a little knife can't do. I wouldn't hammer it into a granite cliff face and use it as a ladder, or chop concrete blocks with it, but, that's just me...:D
IIRC, some have had probs with the Santoprene handle's texture, but, mine has never given me grief so, YMMV.

Get one and be happy.:D

3/16" is plenty good for what he'll need it for.
Looks like I'll be giving him the  on getting one.
