I am looking at adding one of these to my collection.
Does anyone have one of these and do you think they are worth collecting?
I like the button option and overall look of the knife but they seem like they maybe over priced on Ebay @ around $65.00

Thanks

I think they are worth using. One of the best flippers ever made. Lock slide on the side is easy to use too. I have two and love them.

I would take the link down though. No links to any outside dealers or auctions. Only links allowed are from paid bf supporters.

Thanks .. Can you give me a little detail as to why they are one of the best flippers ever made? I was looking at the new Kershaw Dimension Assisted Ti Flipper, and noticed the button on these also. They are made in China though.

What makes a RAM stand above the rest?!?

The lock is a G&G Hawk design. The resistance of the mechanism makes for a smooth & fast delivery of the blade. The choil placement allows for you to choke up nicely on the blade. Plus its made in the USA, so you cant go wrong. If you can get one for $65 new its a steal, or you can get a better deal from Kershaw guy on a blem. being discontinued you wont see them around forever.

The R.A.M. uses what is called the Hawk Lock which was designed by Grant and Gavin Hawk. This locking mechanism lends the knife to being an extremely smooth manual flipper. The Kershaw Dimension has a button lock which is most of the time seen on automatics and is an entirely different mechanism. The R.A.M. is an amazing knife and they are definitely worth collecting. And just so you know the normal price on these is usually from $55 to $65 and they are no longer being made by Kershaw so the prices will go up in time. If I were you I would pick one up now before prices get higher you will definitely not regret it.

Thanks to everone for their comments. I thought I would check here before making a offer on one.
Hopefully I will have one soon. I do like the looks of a few of the new Kershaws but for now, the Ram looks like a unique design that was made in the USA.

I've seen them go for closer to $50 brand new on the bay you just have to look around and wait. It's by far the smoothest Kershaw I've ever owned. Nice and thin and not to light but not to heavy. Takes a razor edge and it's easy to get back to sharp. Just a great knife and was very sad to see Kershaw discontinue it.

That's what I offered for one delivered. I was also looking at a SOG TFSAT-8 Flash II. We'll see pretty soon if my offer is accepted.

I agree .. The Red one looks very sweet. As far as what's not to like .. That is why I posted for info. on this design. I was under the impression the button could be used to keep the blade locked.
I had a Cryo open in my pocket and before I knew it I was covered in blood. I've always been a bleeder (thin blood) but I would prefer not to go thru that again. The Cryo is very sharp but still, this is the first time any of my knifes have opened by themselves. I went back to carrying my Random Leek Tanto till I figure out what to do with the Cryo. I'm thinking of returning it.

The button on the Ram is like a benchmade axis lock. You have to overcome some tension to make it flip out so I doubt it can open in the pocket very easy

Received a Red Kershaw R.A.M. as pictured above, second from the right, with the writing on both sides of the blade, a few days ago. It sure seems like a very nice knife. I'm trying to check it out for any defects or other issues.

Do any of you other RAM owners have suggestions on what to look for? It is not as smooth of a opener as I saw in a youtube video and was expecting?

Any thoughts or advice on what you look for when getting a new knife would be very interesting if you have the time to share them.

Thanks

I have a additional question that I am hoping to get some good feedback on.

Black or Standard Colored Blade and Serrated or Non-Serrated?

Please explain why.

Thank You

I prefer non serrated on the ram. Just leaves too little reg edge for my liking. Dlc coating or bead blast doesn't bother me either way.

Agreed (the serration chipped on one of my serrated RAM knives) - Now where would one find a new DLC coated Kershaw RAM nowadays though? That's the trouble... Maybe the large south american rainforest?

Does anyone know why they discontinued the Kershaw RAM (I suppose floorspace, sales etc.. are all reasonable guesses, but do we have an official reason as to why it was discontinued?)
