Kershaw R.A.M.

Unique design.

I had to get one. Ordered one yesterday and today my brand new Kershaw R.A.M. Black Tungsten DLC Coated 1910CKT knife got shipped!

Also, my nickname as well as the first 3 letters of my first name and user name are "Ram". Enough said.

How are you liking it so far? I loved mine and it's one of the few knives that I've given away that I miss! I forgot to get my dad a birthday present last year so I just grabbed my RAM and gave that to him which he loves but I have missed it since the day I gave it to him.

Mine got shipped today so I won't receive it until sometime next week.

Sweet! So hard to find the black DLC coated ones now.

FWIW - one of my RAM's was a little slower to flip so I used some 3 in 1 oil on the pivot area and now it flies! Also I "load up" the flipper with a little thumb pressure before I flip it and it just snaps open with authority!

Let us know how you like it and post photos if you have time!

I just keep mine close by after oiling it up, and open and close it till it loosens up.

It took a week or two to get the Red one I found to snap open like a auto ;)

Good luck!

Agreed (the serration chipped on one of my serrated RAM knives) - Now where would one find a new DLC coated Kershaw RAM nowadays though? That's the trouble... Maybe the large south american rainforest?

Does anyone know why they discontinued the Kershaw RAM (I suppose floorspace, sales etc.. are all reasonable guesses, but do we have an official reason as to why it was discontinued?)

I am liking this design more and more as I break mine in. Is that the same as DLC? I'm thinking about trying to find a new, plain blade. black handle one for EDC when I can save up some extra cash.

Kershaw RAM 1910CKT DLC Sandvik 14C28N Plain Edge is the full description (to the best of my knowledge, any black coated RAM is DLC Tungsten coated)...

I picked up some Kershaw Echelons and those are sweet - but the RAM is just so satisfying to flip open and looks so slick in all black.

Looks like there is one at the bay and the large south american rainforest jungle for sale around $100 shipped. I might go for it...

I just got a zt0561 and after a week or so of constant flipping while watching tv it really broke in quick. I also loosened the pivot a bit during this break in process. I noticed quickly that it really started working smooth and buttery, and flips like a dream. Keep on flippin :)

Received my Kershaw R.A.M. today. Great EDC knife: very fast opening and fairly compact.

Very Sweet !! So that is the illusive DLC one. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get it for?

I see a few of them in different styles starting to show up on Ebay and the prices keep going up!

Just under $100 BNIB.

I am still considering trying to find a plain serrated blade for EDC.

I think Kershaw has a lifetime warranty in case the blade were to chip.

I think the more we discuss it here the more they are showing up online and like I said .. The prices just keep going up?

Hypermole - google kershawguy - then search for kershaw RAM - combo edge DLC coated blem for a unbeatable price (Just remember, blems do not have warranty coverage to the best of my knowledge).

Otherwise... Black DLC coated ram at a large south american rainforest under $100 shipped ... rare items... rare prices... Surprised that there are any new in box black RAMs left - give it another year and I bet they are all gone.

Sure wish I had picked up a ram blem from kershawguy for sub $50 some years back.

Congrats on the sweet DLC coated blade there RamZar - that ought to keep your EDC covered for a few years!

Were you able to get Kershaw to warranty the blade after the serration chipped?

I have never used my kershaw warranty - I own a Kershaw Cyclone (the full size model without the on/off switch) for four years without any issues.... two kershaw echelons and 4 kershaw ram knives 2 dlc coated plain edge, 1 satin combo edge and 1 satin plain edge.

I was cutting on pvc with the serrations and one chipped - that's my own doing so I have never asked or dealt with kershaw about that particular issue (as I did it myself and it was not a fault of the knife, I don't think they owe me to fix it).

The other issue is that most of my kershaws are blem models so technically (to the best of my knowledge) that means that they are not covered by warranty.

A certain auction site has a satin combo edge RAM sub 60 shipped (if a blem version from kershawguy is not up your alley)

I emailed kershawguy about serration warranty's but have not received a answer yet.

The RAM's overall size and weight begs a ZT treatment by upping the blade steel and other improvements.

Also, I'd change the blade length from 3 1/8 inches to an exact 3 inches for municipalities with such ordinances.

The smallest ZT I have for EDC is the 0750 with that talon blade which personally I'm not a big fan of but the knife's 3.2" blade and 3.7 oz weight are great. However, I don't think it's very popular with the ZT users.

I heard back and chipped or damaged serrations are covered under warranty for a new one.
One thing to keep in mind is this is a discontinued knife and as such the warranty isn't going to replace a knife/blade they don't have parts for. They will make it right with you but you will probably have to choose a different knife.
