Kershaw RAM

Considering the R.A.M. just launched this year, I'd be looking for an update sometime in the second decade of the millennium.

The Ram III uses the same mechanism as the original rams, just moved the button to the spine of the knife. The reasons for this was to make the knife, like 'unkownvt' mentioned, truly ambidextrous. It also solves the problem of people putting there thumb on the lock while trying to flip it.
Gavin

I've only just come across this video -

YouTube - Grant & Gavin Hawk R.A.M. C

Very impressive that the RAM can be opened with the thumb
(I've not been able to do that fully yet)

However on the video the blade seemed to close fully with the release lever -
is the release lever mechanism different on the handmade to the Kershaw production version?
How does that release lever work to be able to close the blade fully?

Thanks,

Vincent

Come on JJ!!

That's enough time dmonay.

Ummm, I think this is Thomas's way of saying that the next gen RAM is already designed, tooled, and produced, passed quality control, and is ready to ship right NOW. He's just makin' us drool for a while before he unleashes the next G&G Hawk beast!!!:D

Does that about sum up the current situation, Coach??;)

Jonny

I found this other video on the Kershaw RAM -

YouTube - Can your flipper do this??

again it shows that the blade can be fully closed with just the release lever on the Kershaw RAM.

Previous video of the custom RAM

YouTube - Grant & Gavin Hawk R.A.M. C

also showing closing the blade fully with just the release lever......

I haven't figured out how to do this -
can anyone please describe how to do it?

check out the other RAM threads. first off, loosen the pivot so its nearly a gravity knife (at least thats how it was done in the second video) and then its just practice.

That's what I did with mine. I loosened the pivot screw up just enough so
that when I pull down on the lock slide it starts to fall.

Ok, the second decade of this millennium is only two and a half years away (or one and a half, depending on how you count).
Really, I wouldn't have expected a model to be released one year and updated the next. Usually things are given a little more time to age, I guess I shouldn't be so surprised given the fast pace of our society.

Hmmm... If an updated R.A.M. is in the works, now would be a good time to ask. Could we get a composite S110V version right off the bat?

thought I'd post this in here instead of making a new thread...

Kershaw and G&G Hawk, THANK YOU!! I think the RAM is one of the coolest knives I've gotten in a while. The fit and finish was awesome(of course it is, it's a Kershaw), the flipping action is amazing, it feels solid and comfortable in hand, and I love the blade shape as well. I just got it today and have just now put it down long enough to type this. Well, back to playing with my new RAM!!

fatheadhill I totally agree with your above comment, make that praises.

I think (of course I may be wrong) that the Hawks have found a way to make the improvements on the RAM III without completely retooling/redesigning the basic knife. So..... it's just a refinement on an already excellent knife.

Right ?

Oh yeah, my RAM has been my constant edc since I got mine the 1st of April. I just can't leave it behind.
I thought Speed-safe was the coolest thing when I got my first Kershaw. Now, I think the flipper is the best new innovation on the kershaw knives. Especially how super smooth it works on the Ram.

Thanks Kershaw for bringing this to market. :)

Thanks for the big hint.

With a bit of practice I can now close the RAM one handed with just the release lever and a flick of the wrist - not as neatly as the videos - but then I didn't loosen the pivot screw.

Many thanks,
