Hey there,

I just picked up a Kershaw Random Leek from Chesapeake Knife and Tool. I saw the ad for it in the Blade Magazine from a few months ago.

I love Wharny blades and this one is no exception. I really like the Random Task and have used the heck out of it. I also have the Boa, a boron carbide Chive, and a regular Leek.

I find the Random leek fits really well in my hand. I have only had it for a few days but I have used it to cut cardboard, plastic, and some rope, not to mention a few apples and oranges.

This knife cuts easily through all of those. I seem to really feel in control of this knife when putting pressure on the victim to be cut.

Regarding the size of the Random Leek, it is nice. I always wear a suit and tie on Mondays and I found that it did not pull my pocket out of shape today when I was at work.

I am by no means a knife tester so I will wait until the knife gets into the hands of a more experienced person to see what they think.

I for one think this knife is good looking,is light enough to carry in different clothes, and feels like the extension of the hand when cutting.

For those who like Wharny blade knives I think this is a must for you.

Who else has one?? Let me know what you think.

I will attach some pics for comparison when my Gold membership, which i just re-upped for, kicks in.

I can email pics to someone who wants to post them for me in the meantime.

be safe all,
Mike

Random LEEK what is that?? Where does it fit in to the LEEK family. Scale color, coating, size???

Nim,

Its the size of a regular Kershaw Leek but it has a blade shape like that of the Random Task.

I have comparison pics standing by waiting for some help or two days when my goldy kicks in again.

Its a beauty, I can tell you that. I sitting here fondling it now. Snaps open like the best kershaw onions out there.

i have not seen a pic on the Chesapeake nor the kershaw sites. Only in Blade magazine. I took a few pics tonight.....

thanks,
Mike

My stainless Leek IS very kewl & 1st choice for dressy occasions, but my black Avalanche gets the nod for hard use. Really fills the hand with stainless liners & G10 scales. Talk about NON SLIP !
Oh, did I mention the blade is CPMS60V?

Hey Mike, thanks for the review! I saw the same pic in Blade and went to CK&T's site but couldn't find it. Do you know if it comes plain edged and not coated? I have the Rainbow Leek but don't use it. The Random Leek looks like a user to me. I would like to see your pix. You can send them to fivepointohh@excite.com thanks. :)

Kershaw is KILLING me! That is almost exactly the knife I dream of for EDC . . . EXCEPT my dream knife does not have 440A blade "steel." Why in the world can't they put some decent steel on that sucker????

Is there a plain edged version too?

David

You have to call them directly and yes, the plain edge version is supposed to be out by the end of the month. They say this is a "limited" run but have not said how many they will have.

I called and ordered a plain edge about 10 days ago and was told that model was due in about 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll get a call this week that it's on it's way to me. I'm looking forward to this baby. S30V - Oh Yeah!!

S30V blade is 3", handle is 4", both are TiNi coated. Blade is a "reverse tanto", similar to the Benchmade Osborne model. List price is $99.99 but the "introductory" price is $69.99. CK&T's phone number is 800-531-1168. Their model number for the plain edge is something like K1660TCKT but if you tell them it's the one with the S30V blade, there should be no problem. You can also get the model number from the ads in Blade and KI.

This forum is dangerous for my wallet! Just pre-orderd the Random Leek in PE from CK&T. They said they should ship the first couple weeks in November. I guess they will start getting them in at the end of October.

I saw a Rainbow Leek the other day at a knife shop. A little smaller than I expected, but looked nice for a EDC. This will be my first blade in S30V. If it's anything like the Avalanche I got it will have a nice edge out of the box.
