Kershaw Scallion vs s.o.g flash one

I have the Flash II and the Scallion in all black. My Scallion is heavier than a Flash I due to all metal construction. Flash I is nice and light. I think there are better options out there like the already mentioned Kershaw OD-1, the Kershaw Skyline, though both are non-AO. If you want AO, check out the SOG Twitch II. It has a 2.68" blade with aluminum handles/scales. It is a very classy, subdued and simple design. The AO action is fast and smooth. Add in excellent the fit and finish and the knife just screams jewel-like. The AUS8 blade is a decent steel that won't break the bank, sharpens up quite respectably and holds an edge adequately. Oh, and you can get them for $40 at Lowes or less online.

I have both the Scallion and the SOG Twitch II, mentioned above. I EDC the Twitch II, and can second the comment that it is "jewel-like" in that it's smooth as glass, opens and closes with an authoritative 'clunk!' and the AUS-8 blade is one of the best I've found...excellent knife.
The Scallion is also great but the steel (420?) is not up to the SOG's AUS8.
I upgraded from the Scallion to the Leek(all stainless), but found the Leek too heavy and slippery with sweaty hands. Either the Scallion or the Twitch II will serve you well...but overall, I recommend the Twitch II.

BTW, the Twitch II, like the Leek, is also all-metal and can be slippery, but I 'onlayed' a contour of glove-leather on the smooth side...wish they made one with G10 scales...

I made a detailed comparison of the Scallion and Flash I (along with a Spyderco Gragonfly) here... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=594450

ok so flash one is out of the question. now i have to deal with spyderco!!! ill never get a edc!!! lol thanks that was a great review im leaning towards the kershaw but not by much. if i could find that spyderco with a meddle handle under 40 im taking it due to the better steal.

Don't make a metal handle a deal breaker. G10 is preferred for a reason, it has far better grip in all conditions.

From my experience, I don't know that I would say that the VG-10 is a better steel than Kershaw's new 14C268N.

I'm going to put another vote in for the OD-1.

I won an Od-1 here on BF, it's a sick knife. I've already recommended it here in this thread, it can't be beat for quality or price, plus the CS you get.

I can guarantee VG10 wont rust as fast. Of course it's not really Kershaws steel that rusts.. just the bead blast finnish.

Stay the course with Spydero. Look at a Tenacious. Grippy G10 handle, full flat grind, steal with decent edge retention, pretty good corrosion resistance, and very easy to resharpen. And its under your price limit. Also look at the Byrd line by Spyderco. If you up your money limit, look at the Spyderco Delica.

I’m gonna go against the flow here and say that I own both and I prefer the Flash I.

Granted the Scallion is a much better knife.

However when I carry a knife this size its as an “invisible” backup knife. Something I can carry inanition to whatever else I happen to have on me that day. Since the SOG is only 1.3 oz and has such a great pocket clip it works perfectly in that function.

Though from your post I get the impression that your not looking for a second knife to carry (or in my case a 4th or 5th:D) so I think your choice should be the Scallion though the people who mentioned the od-1 and the zing are spot on. Take a look at the skyline as well.

p.s. I prefer the dragonfly better then the Flash or the Scallion

Look on the bright side at least there are no really bad choices here only good , better and best.
