So I got a blem Kershaw Shallot from kershawguy due to the fact that I kept hearing great things about them, and wanting to do some home-brew things without accidentally trashing a $50+ knife

I added custom standoffs to the Shallot, since I felt that the plastic (G-10?) insert just wasn't fitting for a knife as clean and pretty as the Shallot.
So, now my knife is completely metal, not a single part or piece of plastic on it anywhere!

Next I want to trim the torsion bar and reinforce where it presses against the knife

Let me know what you guys and gals think!

Thanks!

When I ordered the standoffs, they only had those in the proper width I needed, and the holes in them were too small for the screws.
I had to drill them out, and it's a little hard to see, but I marred them a little. Didn't realize they were that soft.

They were also a bit expensive, ordered from KnifeKits.com
Does anyone know another place to get knife parts and such?

I wonder why they were soft (the standoffs), I would have thought they would be hardened at least a little. If you decide to drill out another set of stand offs, I would wrap them a couple times in masking tape. It provides adequate cushion and might prevent any deformation or marring.

Sent you a message on where else to try and find some standoffs.

Thanks!

I did wrap the standoffs in soft rag before gripping them with pliers
Perhaps the grooves in the pliers were too aggressive and sharp. Drilling was easy though, and the holes in them helped keep me drilling straight down.

Thanks for the message too! I appreciate the help!

No problem. At some hardware stores, they sell rubber covers for the plier jaws too, it is a trade off protection for precision. Might also be worth the couple bucks to check them out.

They look real good. I think that's a must do mod for mine. I managed to get a 110 and a ZDP version a few years ago and love them. I think wrapping the plier tip with electrical tap should do the trick.

If you want to buy or make your own standoffs, they measure to 5/32" or about .156 or .157
Not sure what the drill size I used, it was the smallest bit I had, and just happened to work perfectly

I did checkout usaknifemaker, and I now have them bookmarked for future reference!

Thank you all for your input and advice!

Nicely done. I made my own for my Skyline a while back and wrote up a short tutorial using nothing but average garage tools. No lathe, no fancy cutting tools, just the stuff that any man should have in his garage.

The tutorial is titled Kershaw Skyline Mod#2, so if you search you should find it. I would link to it, but I'm on my phone and it takes much longer to do that.

I did see your mods for the skyline!
When I was doing my standoffs, I had no round stock of anything, so I figured that buying pre-made ones would be fine, not to mention that they can get better tolerances and the precise size I need!
