I believe its Damascus not Damasteel, Damasteel is the badass stainless version of Damascus. Damasteel as a company(Its both the company name and the steels name.) is also the manufacturer of RWL-34.

I honestly thought they were just interchangeable. Good info.

No worries. used to think that too...then I got really deep into metallurgy. Anyway, I think Kershaw does outsource their Damascus to Alabama Damascus which if I am not mistaken has a base of 3 layers of 52100 4 layers of 5160 3 layers of 203E and 3 layers of 15N20, this as a really pretty badass composition, not as good as Damasteel and definitely not stainless but pretty badass none the less. It has 3 tones one that is shiny one that is slightly grayish and one that is a dark grey or black depending on the etch. A lot of foreign or cheaper Damascus producers only use 1095 and 15N20 in a 1:1 ratio. This is ok but it doesn't give you the great springiness and toughness that 5160 brings or the amazing hardness and toughness of 52100.

TL;DR: That Damascus is still pretty good and I am a nerd about steel and I feel self conscious now cause this is kinda my first comments on blade forums as I joined pretty recently. Hey guys.
