Kershaw Skyline with smooth G10 scales

I did this to my skyline not long ago. I like smooth g10 and it goes well with the sleek lines of the knife.

Imagine how many people would lose that knife and complain that there was no grip to the G10? Some knives need grippiness, this is one because of t's size. Smoothness = lost knife

Well then I guess all those racecars running on slick tires have it all wrong? :-)

I do agree when using it in wet or oily conditions it can pose a problem, but the shape of the handle takes over at that point. The Skyline is not a knife I would consider heavy duty so for everyday tasks I think it looks and will perform great.

David, any update on how you like it after some carry time?

I also love my Skyline and I carry it 2 or 3 times a week but sometimes it's a little rough coming out of my kaki patne's pocket.

I disagree. The only reason to get G10 is for the grip/toughness IMO. I think he ruined it, but it is his knife.

+1 for me.
Grip is the only reason for the use of G10, such as the application in competitive grips for pistols from grip manufacturers such as houge etc.

but again, it is his knife.

G10 is dimensionally stable, has an extremely high mechanical strength, is resistant to solvents, doesn't absorb water, resists relatively high temperatures (fire retardant in FR4 grades), and is easily machinable. It also happens to polish up rather nicely. These were a few other reasons that G10 is used in making knives.

The first Kershaws with SpeedSafe (Random Task, Ricochet, Mini Task) had polished G10 handles. As I mentioned before there have been other Kershaws with polished G10 handles as well.

You don't see too many people complain about Polished Micarta or Carbon Fiber on knives. The materials are pretty similar, epoxy with some sort of fibrous substrate. Woven glass fiber, linen (or other cloth), or woven carbon fibers.

I compromised on mine. Smooth under the pocket clip, grippy elsewhere. It tore the crap out of a pair of slacks, so I had to smooth it out. Same with my ZT0350.

Kershaw has had polished G-10 scales on knives off and on for years. There are more than a few people that like collecting them.
I can think of a few people with a bunch of Random Tasks. :D

My ears were ringing....now I know why. :P

I think it looks nice, and would be a nice addition to my growing collection of Skyline variants! BTW, I have both a Random Task (safe queen) and a Mini Task (blem, converted to tip-up, light duty EDC), and I really like the looks of polished G-10, but I do have to agree with the comments that it is not "grippy" enough for my taste for heavier use (just my opinion). Love seeing all of the mods that people come up with!
