So I have misplaced my Griptilian and am looking for a new knife. I am contemplating on splurging on a Spec Bump, but am I curious about what other quality knives I can get in that price range. The Benchmade 710 looks nice if anyone can compare the two.

As for the the spec bump itself, can anyone recommend a good and cheap place to buy one from?

The cheapest I can find is at $120 from ebay:

Yeah, thats how I got the listing from the original post. There are some cheaper Specs with 154cm steel, but I am looking for the S30V.

Are there any other places other than ebay? I know Newgraham has it listed at $125+shipping, but I am hoping to find it cheaper....

Keep in mind that VERY FEW of the SPec Bumps are 154CM contrary to what the listing says. If the G-10 knife handle is the 3-D "spider web" design, the Blade should be S30V. The Spec Bumps with 154CM Steel have a much smoother G-10 Handle. I may not be describing it right, so I have a picture of what the S30V blade looks like and the corresponding handle will look like. In other words, if the handle looks like my Spec Bump, the Blade is S30V.

The smaller knife is the Spec.

IIRC there are not 154CM Spec Bumps, only the first ones were CPM154, Crucible's powder metal version of 154CM.

yes that is correct..original has the 154cm or cpm154. Any you see with the starburst pattern on the g10 are the s30v. I have one and it is very nice. I recently sharpened it up and it takes a great edge.

I have a Bump and though it is a Stout and interesting folding A/O I have decided that I have alot of better EDC's. IMO the blade design does not do much for me in my day to day uses. I do like the knife and will not get rid of it because it is kinda Cool. But all in all, my ParaMilitary will out perform it hands down!

I actually love the blade shape of the Bump line...I don't think it's very pretty, but I think it's very functional....

the spec bumps an excellent knife, but yes, there are real competitors

Gravitator
710 (keep in mind this knife is HUGE, it seems bigger in real life...)
Blue/Green Bump
the ZT line
Benchmade 4x
Paramillie
Mini manix

There are several others, no doubt.

My 710 is my large EDC, and a great folder. I haven't used the Spec Bump, so I can't comment on that.

Is tip down the only way you can carry the Spec Bump?

I'm not sure how you would make a quick draw with tip down.....

A very beefy titanium liner lock. It is the best liner lock I've ever had or seen, there's just no comparison (in fairness, I haven't played with any strider or ZT or William henry liner locks, I mean in its immediate price category and under). If you search the reviews area for gravitator, you can find my review of it, with tons of photos (including some of the lock).

Both the Spec Bump and Gravitator seem only to be right side tip down carry. Is that true or are my eyes fooling me?

This is kind of a big deal because I am left handed....

Tip up knives are exceedingly easy to draw quickly. I carry both tip up and down frequently.

Yes, they're both tip down, unless you enjoy drilling. Conversions are certainly possible, of course.
