Kershaw Spec Bump?

The Ti Bumps were S30V. I believe the Speed Bumps and Al Bumps were 13c26n
The Spec Bumps may have started in 154-CM, but I'm pretty sure they were always S30V.

That first run of Spec Bumps had G-10 similar to that Franken-leek.
The G-10 had parallel grooves. Really nice. The Spec/Speed also had the parallel grooved handles and the blade from the Speed Bump.

The Bumps have one of my favorite blade shapes. The combo of that recurve and the straight edge is very versatile.

the first run of the spec bump had the better handles, in my opinion, but they did have the hideous writing on the blade. I didn't buy a first run model strictly because of the writing, expecting the first run to disappear and just to buy one a few months down the road. I tuned out the spec bump (I already had a Ti Blue Bump) for 6 months and by the time I came back to it, it had the starburst scales. They're great, but I still liked the smooth g10 version more. Too bad they didn't produce an Offset in that version.

get the spec bump. stud locks are probably not the BEST lock out there, but it's quite good. And very fun to use. I was carrying my offset today in fact.

As others have mentioned, this is going to be a rare find soon, so get it now before you have to wait on fleabay for a month to just to pay an extra $50 for one.

Sidenote: I've had two stud locks for several years each and they have both worked great, no probs.

I will put the "Stud Lock" up against any locking mechanism. It has proven it's self to me as the hands down strongest locking mechanism on the market. I did a lot of testing on that lock as did Kershaw.

It is really great to see makers "weigh in" on threads about their designs!!:thumbup:

The stud lock on the Spec Bumps that I had were rock solid. I would have no concern getting another one. Great knife!

Why was it discontinued? Seems to have been quite popular.

It seems I heard said that the stud lock was a pain to manufacture. Also, I think the extreme recurve put people off. It's hard to see how useful the shape is without spending time with it.

I actually had a Spec-Bump for a short while, and while I love the stud lock and the construction of the knife, the recurve is what finally made me decide to sell it. If it had a regular wharncliffe blade, I'd still own it right now.

The blade shape is useful in my experience, but yeah, visually just too radical.

But the real reason I never bought a spec bump was my love of the bump....bump. I've had a blue and green ti bump so I never really was inclined to get the tactical version...but lately.....

It's a killer blade!! Ive said it before, I'll say it again, get one and you won't be disappointed, one of my very favorites for edc, it gets a lotta my pocket time.

Maybe these photos will help... (thanks Glenn)

Have my S30V Bump for about a year and an half. This type of lock never caused any problems. Works very well. Only minus is a little rattling of studs when the blade is closed.

Generally this knife is very good
- best handle in my collection of folders (ZT200 is even better but too large)
- After resharpening to 25 Degree angle cuts like razor (it was bloody piece of work on Lansky Sharpener)
- Assist is very good
- Blade shape is effective. Used BM Dejavoo flat grind slicer before so have a basis to compare. Somebody from old school can criticize it but it is more issue of preferences.

My wife hates it because it destroyed many of my jeans. Unfortunately perfect handle is too large for the both rear and front pockets. In a month of carry makes holes at the point where the handle's end touches cotton.

It is very pity that this model is discontinued. I have about a dozen of friends here and in Russia which are pissing with steam when they see my knife and asking to find them the same.
Unfortunately on eBay they are > USD 200 so not affordable.

Respect to Mr. Onion :) Good knife
and one more issue I would like to ask
I wonder if it is possible to design the knife as follows:
- Blade shaped like in Volt 1 with flipper 3.7-3.9 Inches long
- Spec Bump Handle
- Stud Lock and Speed Safe
and how much do you think it will cost?

Regards

Yarivan

Is that a Russian colloquialism? I might start using that....

:D Actually I am from Ukraine. There is such a funny idiom here used when you are admiring of smth or very impressed etc. If translate it correctly (word to word) it will sound like this: My collegues were pissing with boiling water when they saw the knife.
Sorry for my english. Suffering lack of practice.

I actually have a speed bump in my collection still new in box. It is the black aluminum version and is a damn cool knife. The only neg I have is that it's pretty heavy. The lock is really unique, speed assist is very snappy and fun. I was a bit surprised these models were discontinued because they are actually the only kershaws I really liked. Maybe next year there will be more Ken Onion designs.

Hi everyone.
Would appreciate your info about sharpening of this blade. I do not feel like using Lansky again. It was not very convenient last time. Can you recommend
any other sharpening stuff?
