Kershaw speed bump Grip Or Endura

In the mean time, lets all drool over this. Can't wait to pick this bad boy up. Hello christmas present

Damn you! I still need to pre-order mine, ftl. The question is great spyderco or greatest spyderco?

Greatest? The rumors. :D 5"+ folder, 4"+ Manix 2, RIL (with a CF scale) M4 Military.

Talk to Tom Berry (Spydercovt.com) about preorders for the RIL Millie. Best Spyderco dealer around.

So if I've been keeping track of this thread correctly, you already have an Endura, Tasman, Tenacious, and maybe a Centofante and Persistence?

If that's the case, you already have a few great users and IMO another Endura or a Grip would just be more of the same. Great knives no question, but very similar to the knives you already have.

The Bump has a very unique blade shape and locking system, and the assisted opening is a fun feature too. IMO it would be a very cool addition, completely different than all of the other knives you have.

Also please buy it because it appears to be the last one they have and if it's not gone soon I am going to be VERY tempted and I really shouldn't :p

I have always liked the Speed Bump line. I am a big fan of the recurve blade.
I had a chance to carry a aluminum version for about a month.
I thought the lock on the blade was going to be horrible to deal with.
After the second opening of the knife I was hooked. I liked the way I could close it with one hand. Either hand to be more accurate. It locks up nicely and does not give at all. The aluminum handles were smooth enough to look nice but had just enough texture to get a good grip.

Judging by the date on the blade of the one I have here,
the steel is Sandvik 13C26.

BTW, Happy Anniversary.

If you want to go with a Kershaw and don't care for the extremely pronounced recurve and a gaudy pocket clip, try out the Shallot. It is assisted opening, a frame lock, has a slight but not obnoxious recurve, similar steel in the blade and a more discrete pocket clip. It also has a stainless steel handle.

The Griptilian is a fine knife unless you do not want a FRN handled knife. I prefer the opening hole to the thumb-stud. All the ones I have are equipped with the thumb stud. This knife has the Axis lock and 154CM steel in the blade. It is about the same price as the SS endura. I believe there are versions available with opening holes and in 440C steel as well. They offer plain and half-serrated blades.

The Endura has the most options IMO. You can get Stainless or FRN handles, serrated, combination, or plain edges, and VG-10 steel for the blade for around the same price as the Griptilian and the Speed Bump (and the Shallot as well). You get an extremely secure lockup, especially with the stainless handled models. You get the opening hole, which I find to be the most efficient mechanism for opening a folding knife. In my experience VG-10 outperforms 154CM, 440C, and the Sandvik 13C26 that Kershaw uses.

If I had to choose, I would select the Endura or the Shallot, then the Griptilian over the Speed Bump. The endura and shallot are similar knives in most aspects. If it comes to opening method, serrations or not, locking mechanisms, and assisted opening or not, I would personally select the Endura as it meets my qualifications for a daily using knife but you can't really go wrong with the Shallot or Griptilian either. As stated above, the Speed Bump is not my cup of tea.

Edited to add: The Shallot, Speed Bump and Griptilian are made in the USA, the Endura is made in Japan. The differences in the above knives you are comparing, as well as the Shallot (my own recommendation) are personal preferences. All three companies put out a superb production folding knife using the most modern materials and technologies available, Kershaw and Spyderco have excellent customer service (I can't speak for Benchmade as I have not first or even second hand experience with it), affordable selections that are widely available. It is going to come down to your personal preference re: opening method, locking mechanisms, handle material, blade steel, style and shape, serrations or not, etc.

How about a Kershaw Blur?
The blade shape is great
AO is snappy
Lock is a bit thin for some people, but so is a Military, and nobody has horror stories about those breaking so you should be safe
Pocket clip is nice and functional, if you bend it out it will draw form the pocket much better
Best thumbstuds I've ever handled, they're "ramped" instead of circular so you can't slip off them
Price is great, plus you get the CS and waranty of Kershaw

Unfortunately, it's a pocket shredder, but it wears down over time and will be less aggressive

I think that it's a great model and one of the best Kershaws I've found for my EDC
(Not discounting the Speed Bump, I've never owned one so I can't comment on them, but I've heard the stud lock is fantastic)

Yup, you are correct  I was too late though, someone already bought it

2bkc: Wow, thanks for that input, that really helps me out. It seems the bump is a great knife! And tyvm :)

Pete: Thank you very much. Spydercos are excellent in almost every aspect. The reason I was reluctant to get another Endura was because I have one already and I'll be getting a ton of spydercos this month and wanted some variety, thank you for your wonderful input

A blade aficionado: I've checked out the blur, but it didn't quite strike my fancy. Thank you, though :)

Well guys turns out the aluminum speed bump did sell out this morning... Because my girlfriend bought it :o I guess my decision is made for me! Thank you guys so much for your input, pictures, descriptions, experiences, etc. Helped me a bunch!
