I couldn't leave it alone. I decided to mod my Thermite. I added a forward finger choil and took some weight out of the liner. FYI the liner on the G10 side is hardened! I had to anneal it on the back to drill it out. Cleaned up nice. Now off to EMP to get a new scale and a bead blast job.

Build my own knife? Well yes and no. I like to design them on paper and card stock, even had O1 blanks water jetted for a fixed blade. But I'm very nervous to grind on them.. I think this spring I'm going to take a Autocad class and start wringing out my 1x30' HF belt grinder. Maybe submit some designs to some companies.

I want to drill out a detent hole and take the spring out. I took the spitting out just checking everything and it's buttery smooth

I tried that too .It is smooth but I don't have a diamond tipped burr to do this mod. If you did do this you could take out the liner and cut the screws shorter and make the whole thing thinner. Just need a bigger washer for g10 contact to blade.

What did you use to cut the choil?

I've deassisted multiple A/O kershaw's (where it was necessary to add a detent hole) and I did so with a dremil, very simple and takes all of 5 minutes.

Nice work. Here is a Thermite I modded:

It has a Jade Ghost G10 scale (made by me) and I drilled a detent hole with a drill press and a 1/16 inch Dremmel diamond ball.

Dremel tool and sanding drum followed by a sharpmaker med. stone to deburr edges.

Wow! How long did that take?

Edit: it looks great btw! Im a fan of choils and tho I've never handled a factory thermite I'd love to try that one just cause of the choil, if by chance you ever get tired of it and care to do a pass-around that would be awesome.
/Just sayin lol.

How much more do you think you could have cut out of the liner, could you do it almost fully skeletonized? SBK I bet yours would looks awesome skeletonized like that threw your jade scale. I use to own an eschelon and I was a big fan of the "natural" G10, I actually have a pair of natural blanks sitting here waiting on a project right now. This thread has made me want a thermite too, with a choil cut in it and the flipper removed (and deassisted of course). Decisions decisions...

Edit again: no, must resist, I don't like flippers and I don't like frame locks and I don't like A/O, oh but two of the three can be fixed...
