Kershaw three pack 20$

I picked up a similar set last year only with a Kershaw Brawler in 8Cr13MoV. Liked it so much I bought 3 more sets for my kids. The Gerber Guardian knives with 420hc steel that Walmart sells are probably much better knives for the money than the Kershaws with 3cr blades. I haven't tried them yet but I'm tempted to pick up a few for gifts. And you are right, the LED lights that come in the set are garbage at best. I think Walmart sells the same lights 10 for $10 if that tells you anything.

Not to sound like a jerk, but some of you guys REALLY need to read up and buy a few decent knives. 3CR13/420J2 is absolute garbage. If you're happy with 420J2 you'd probably freak out over AUS8, and likely curl up in a fetal position from denial of S30V or 154CM.

For twice as much ($20-$25), go buy an Ontario Utilitac which would cut those disgarces to Kershaw in two! :D

I have experience with 8cr13mov, 14c28n, cpm154, 154cm, aus8, and elmax.

I don't think this steel would hold a candle to most of those but for a $10 beater knife it is fine. No one said it would have great edge retention or that it would perform at the same level as a higher end steel. I like a good value and IMO these are a good value.

Whatever man. You can go on and on about what a deal 420j2 is, but nobody is gonna agree with you.

A beater knife? Higher steel grades will allow for more abuse due to higher quality. But if your just gonna beat it around then get a fixed blade or the RIGHT tool for the job.

Get off your high horse. I do trade work and spend thousands of dollars making sure I have the RIGHT tool for the job. Sure I would love to be able to afford $60 knives for "beater" knives. But I can't. So those are my good knives and my "beater" knives are $30 Kershaw that are easy to resharpen, and carry a lifetime warranty. I really don't need random internet guy telling me how to spend my money.

I think a $10 knife with a low grade steel, coated blade, and backed by outstanding warranty and customer service is a good value. If you disagree, there are less dickish ways to state your case.

Enjoy your knives!

Thanks, and I hate to come off as a dick, but it seems people on this site sometimes forget that not everyone has hundreds of dollars. I recently treated myself to a zt0566 and I love it but it was a big purchase for me. I don't abuse my knives at work but sometimes when you're cutting fiberglass duct board, you hit the steel I beam behind it. Sure the elmax steel or even my USA made Kershaw would hold up better, but I prefer to carry a cheaper blade and sharpen it when necessary. Try as I may to be responsible, sometimes things fall into 18" of cellulose insulation and you don't realize it until you're out of the attic and never find it again. I'd rather that be a $20 knife with poor edge retention.

Maybe the knives don't work for you, but no one was touting them as something they're not and they do work for some people. I still think you'd be hard pressed to find a better quality knife for $10 and some people still buy $10 knives.
