Hi All,
So Kershaw knives introduced this futuristic looking knife, Tilt. Looks pretty cool, I'll pick one up for the collection.
However, the question that's bothering me is the Vanax 75 steel composition.
I have a placeholder for it in the steel chart, but no real data. One more "secret" in the knife world....
I found documents on the net mentioning Vanax 75 steel dated as far back as 2007. One article along all the question marks indicated that it's a Nitrogen steel.
Hardly a surprise, their Vanax 35 steel also has it, whole 1.90% of it.
Apparently an evolution of Vanax 35.
There's another article, this one dated 2009, says Vanax 75 is new, well, ok so be it. Mentions more data, such as 316 class stain resistance and up to 5 times greater wear resistance compared to "standard steel".
I have no idea what is a standard steel in general, or for slaughterhouses, but since it has vanadium in it, I figure it will be wear resistant...
Anyhow, since Kershaw and custom makers are playing with it, may be the composition will be finally published? Does anyone have solid data w/o violating NDA and such...
Considering the mess Bohler-Uddeholm websites are, may be they forgot to put the correct link on one of their sites?
I'm really tired of secret steels
And I still can't find a test lab in bay area that will test the composition for a reasonable price.
