Kershaw Tilt

Absolutely. Why would anyone buy something they don't like?

I didn't say that you had to like the way it looks. All I said was that you can't really compare the Needs Work to something like the Tilt. They're just too different.

thank you for beating me to it :D

i was never a fan of the needs work...it is a fairly well liked knife though. when i saw the tilt, the design just "worked" for me. although from a ergonomics stand point, it does appear somewhat odd. but once i found out more about it (materials, KVT, Vanax 75, actual price, etc.) i couldn't help myself. i've already pre ordered mine. its just a long, cruel waiting game at this point. :D

waiting blows.i agree with that. i am impressed with the materials on the tilt.enjoy

joey. but whats the first thing you gonna bust up with it/

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

Thomas.... bronze annodized lockside and hardware... You know what I'm talking about. :D

now that would be cool to see! although i think i'd prefer the blue like the prototype. blue annodized hardware would be sick though! maybe a limited edition w/ bronze?

Thomas, if you don't want this picture posted please say so and I'll take it down, but this is what I would like it to look like.

EDIT: It actually doesn't look very bronzed in this picture, but you kind of get the idea.

The Tilt looks pretty awesome!

Definitely interested, but will wait till more people get them in hand and give their initial/overall impressions.

I'm still torn about the Tilt, although I'm sure it'll be an excellent folder. The one I'm really wanting is the ZT/Hinderer folder (I think it's the ZT 0550?).

by all accounts, the tilt looks to be a very promising knife (on paper at least). As long as kershaw manufactures it to its normal exacting standards and with a wicked-sharp edge, it should live up to its expectations. The ZT/Hinderer is another one i'm ooking forward to as well but the Tilt just interests me slightly more. not saying i won't get the ZT eventually:p.

Thanks for posting that picture Tony8179. Is that an un-finished production Tilt or one of the prototypes?

First i want to say i love kershaw..great knives..awesom prices..great costumer service..the Tilt..great materials went into this knife but its looks rediculous..i am sorry but it looks like a weird knife..why not a drop point or spear point...looks to futuristic yet like its out of a bad scifi movie...

Personally, I like the look of the Tilt. A rather unique variation on a Wharncliffe blade with a semi-futuristic handle shape. It's also the best looking composite blade Kershaw's come out with IMO.

I'm not seeing the futuristic thing. The design, to me, looks pretty straight forward. Is t the wharncliffe blade that is making it look that way?

IMO it's the use of straight lines in the place of more traditional rounded edges. The wharncliffe blade, the angles, the texture of the carbon fiber, the rectangular pocket clip...it's all vaguely sci-fi feeling without venturing into over-done "tacticool" territory.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

Maybe he hasn't seen Tim's MOAB? :D

Oh, I've seen the MOAB. Spent a lot of time drooling over it along with the rest of Tim's customs. The Tilt is much more subtle about it, but it's the same idea. It's all about lines and angles instead of curves.

To refine that, I'd say it looks almost like something out of an 80's sci-fi movie. What someone from thirty years ago thought of as "futuristic."

Is just the vibe I get from it.

Tim does beautiful work! Check it out...

I must admit that for as much as I love the JYD, and I really do love my JYD's, I really am partial to the Punk. I just love the overall look of it.

I've always been a fan of the MOAB, which is why I think I like the Tilt so much. Not that the Tilt and the MOAB are the same, but some of the lines of the handle are similar and I like that.

Any word on what the steel is going to be like?

A look at the charts here gives a small hint, but nothing definitive:
http://zknives.com/knives/steels/vanax75.shtml

At a glance it seems to be a nitrogen steel much like H1, though it's described as having "stain resistance" so I'm wondering if "rust proof" is out of the question.

I see an almost stupidly high amount of chromium and vanadium, which seems a bit curious given the minimal carbon content.

Sounds like it could be the Bohler-Uddeholm version of S110V.
