Well I picked this knife up several years ago, I had read a great review in GWLE. It a Kershaw, made with titanium, and a AST 34 blade. I believe that the knife was made in Japan?. Can anyone tell more? value? etc. Thanks.

I believe it is the Kershaw Talon. Do a search for Talon and see what you get. " kershawguy " is a member here and has a Talon, maybe he can help

Those were made around 1997-1998 . They were made in two models 1430 and 1435. Both models were made in Japan with ATS 34 blades and Titanium frames. The suggested retail was $130.00 for either knife in the 1998 catalog. I can't tell from your photo which model you have , because they are identical except for size which I can't judge from your photo. The larger 1435 was called the "Ti-Hawk" , the smaller 1430 was the "Wild Wild Turkey" they were also produced with G10 scales in model #'s 1431 "G10 Wild Turkey" and larger 1436 "G10 Hawk"
also retailing for $130.00. In very good to excellent condition in todays mkt. you could expect to pay $50-$100 . These continue to be amomg my favorite Kershaw knives and yes Jeremy they are in the same family as the Talon, they are all 1400 series knives and all used ATS34 , Titanium, and G10 . The 1430, 1431, 1435, and the 1436 were all made in Japan, the rest of the knives in this series were made in the USA. Hope this helps.

Below is a shot of my own Kershaw Talon. It is the model with the hawkbill blade. I can tell you that it is the smoothest, most positive operating liner lock I've ever used and I've use a lot of them.

I have a 1431 and a 1436. I carry the 1431 all the time because it is so light and holds an edge extremely well. The only complaint I have is that both knives have terrible striations across the width of the blade. I've been able to remove some of the marks with Flitz Polish, but not all of them. Any ideas?

VERY nice. All the Talons are hawksbills. The Starkey Ridge has the bellied blade.

Your Talon is the bottle-opener model, which has been in demand among pikal enthusiasts, because the bottle opener works like the Emerson Wave.

For some odd reason your reply made me chuckle with a half full mouth of coffee , thanks Esav.
When I first looked at Edgeon's pic I thought he waved it himself and how ironic that it looked like a bottle opener , my mind was spinning that maybe he made it a dual purpose wave/bottle opener and was that not a neat idea ?
Than Esav blinds me with the truth !
:D

Never seen the Talon before, looks like a pretty cool knife , how is the lockup on that ?

The lockup on my Talon is somewhat disappointing. If I flick it open hard, it is reliable, but if I just thumb it open, the liner doesn't engage tightly, and a light tap on the spine will defeat it.

I'm sure I could tweak it but since it's pretty much retired, it doesn't matter. Also, when I was using it, I didn't worry about it closing, since I was using it to slice, not fight. :)
