I've tried googling but I can't find any info on it. Is it new or old?

I just picked one up for 35 out the door, but the only place I found that had them on the Internet priced them at 77 dollars. The model is 1790CKT. Someone give me some info please. Thanks!

Go look it up on Kershaw's web site. I just did. Why should I do the work for you? ;)

Edit: and where in the heck did you find one for $35???

LOL @ Dorito Monk... Beat me to it.

The Turbulence is a really nice knife. I missed it somehow, but I am actually on a quest to own a Rake at the moment.

It's new(ish) and based on the eponymous Tim Galyean knife. Kershaw is now calling it the TG1 instead of the Turbulence, I assume to avoid confusion with the Galyean Pro Series version. As with the Rake, availability has been patchy for the last few months, but it looks like they're now rolling the TG1 out in greater numbers.

The name change is probably why I can't find it. Thanks!

Yep it's the TG1! Thanks for letting me know about the name change. No wonder I couldn't find any info on it.

Anyway, it's a sweet knife.

Kershawguy is selling Rake blems for $59 shipped. I've gotten two from him and blems have been very small and insignificant. Very nice knife!

Now I am confused. I didn't see any evidence of a name change (other than this thread). The knife is listed as the 1790CKT Turbulence on Kershaw's web site and brand new catalog.

Please tell us where you found one for $35.

I got it for 35 at a local brick and mortar store where I get a discount. It's listed as the tg1 on knifecenter, though.

Good point about the catalog: they may have changed the name in the other direction. "Turbulence" was the first name I saw for it a while back, then it started appearing as the "TG1" instead. But Kershaw may have decided to go with "Turbulence" after all, since it is quite a bit more memorable than TG1.

Without photos, it doesn't exist. ;)

It is a very sweet knife and another must have for any respectable Kershaw fan, Ha.

From what I know, it was originally going to be called the Turbulence, then for some reason it was changed to TG1 before the run of the 1790CKT's was released. Shortly after, the model name was changed back to Turbulence, probably in anticipation of the release of the 1790 version.

Hopefully Thomas can correct me if I'm wrong.

So are you saying there is a different model other than the 1790ckt? Just 1790 alone without the ckt?

IIRC, the 1790 is in the 2011 catalog and was shown at SHOT. I don't think they've hit full production quite yet, but they're expected sometime this year.

EDIT: Yup, just checked my copy of the 2011 catalog. It's on page 12/13, with a stonewashed blade. I also remember seeing it in nutnfancy's booth review on YouTube.

Bumping this up for a question: to the owners, how is it to engage the blade without the flipper or using only the stud/stop pins?

Ok?
Possible?
So-so?
PITA/don't-even-think-about-it!

I'm thinking with the overall dimensions it'll be a superb slicer.

TIA
