Kershaw vs. Buck

For me it really depends on the knife. Kershaw overall uses better steels. If we are talking a lock back Buck wins. If we are talking Buck Spitfire, Buck loses big. However, the Vantage series is a great knife and better than a lot of Kershaw knives. But, Kershaw does have some awesome designs that are American made and that are superior products.

Kershaw has turned into Gerber.

Yea, um no. Not even close. Kershaw lists all of their steel types on the package or knife. just because they make cheap knives for people that want cheap knives does not mean they are Gerber.

This. Many times over.

My preferences... i dunno. I'm going go with Buck. I've had great experience with their 420HC and find their bang/buck ratio to be excellent especially on their USA made knives. It's no shocker when their chinese made lock backs are nice for $20, but when you get the level of fit/finish on a perfectly made, very strong 110 for a whopping $28, it's a no brainer.

have to go with buck kershaw ok but style is redundant, buck has hunting, folders, tactical, going back to all bucks usa made when current contracts end so thats good, plus tops is in idaho, so think buck will stay competitive to compete with tops for customer dllrs

Both companies make good serviceable knives in all their price categories. To me, it's a choice of whose design you like best.

need I say more, no but I'm gonna:D
How many of them have been carried vs kershaws most popular offering ?
What would your grandparents answers be ? ( I brought mine home and my grandma said " those were the shit back in the day, I wish I still had mine ")
What is the most iconic and easily recognizable fixed blade of any movie/ franchise from the past 30yrs ( it wasn't a kershaw )
How many kershaw knives are considered an iconic American classic ?

I think I've made my point:D:D

The question wasn't "which brand is more iconic"

The question wasn't even "which one is better" actually.

The original question was, "which of the 2 is your preference", to which there really is no wrong answers, as people will prefer whichever they prefer. If someone says they "prefer" TacForce over Buck or Kershaw, they would not be wrong if they truly do prefer it for whatever their reason...

Kershaw. A lot of models and they are some of the best budget knives out there IMO. Sandvick FT(budget)W!

This is a scary question. Kershaw is more innovative and market savy. Buck more traditional and less responsive to market trends. My greatest fear is that 20 years from now I will be telling my grandkids about long gone great American knife makers Buck, Kershaw and Case.
Keep manufacturing here. Buy with your grandkids in mind.

I know that, but I just had to say it. I definitely like kershaw they make great products, but buck just means more to me and I prefer much simpler knives like one handed lockbacks ( with no weird shapes, lines, or curvy blades ) and most kershaws are funky and not as simple in design.

Well it depends, do you like apples or tacos more? Idk..I don't think they're comparable

had two buck 110. both have major blade wiggling when closed, but the biggest turning off is two hands are needed for openning and closing. The blade steel is excellent given the price point though.

Had two kershaws, thermite and brawler. Both are ok but nothing impressive.

Between them and buck 110, I would choose the latter (partly because I have other better modern folders).

BTW, just because your grandpa chose/used Buck does not mean it is the better knife (he probably did not have much a choice).

You can always put a kwik stud on your buck 110:D the buck 110 wasn't the only folder option ,just the best and only one capable of fixed blade tasks. Honestly a better comparison would be kershaw vs Gerber, sog,or crkt. Some of bucks modern folders may not be as good as Kershaws, and today kershaws traditionals (the few they offer ) can't hold a candle to a buck. I prefer the value and classic appeal of buck, and the modern inventiveness of ketchup.
