Kershaw Whiplash review

Thanks for the review. Still waiting on Tony8179's review that he promised in this thread.

Regardless, it's still not my cup of tea.

Solid review. It takes some work to put one together. Thanks.

Check out the custom knife towards the bottom of the page from Mr. Hawk (the birthday present.) While very different, the tang and deep cut in the handle shows some similarities:

This costom looks like part of the evolution, too:

Thanks, lava_lamp. Those do indeed give some indication of the designer's thought processes. They're unique, to say the least.

It would be interesting to see what he comes up with. It's not exactly my cup of tea either (I'm more of a woods-bumming type), but I tried to review it as dispassionately as possible.

I know Tony is working on his review, but it will take a little while longer.
He got called back to work so that has been on his mind the most as of late.
I'm sure you understand, family and all first.
But he is adamant on doing a good review for us.

Just give him some extra time. ;)

Family and work certainly come first. I'll look forward to seeing his review whenever he can get to it. It's always interesting to see a second point of view, and he may well cover some things that I may have missed.

Hey guys. I am working on a review, but there is some stuff that I want to get done out in the woods and since I've been called back to work it's been a little more than insane around here. I was laid off when the whole talk of the Whiplash started and since I didn't have any side jobs at the time I figured I'd get the review done no problem. I went back to work the next week and it's at a school. Pulling in an all new electrical service and the job has to be done by early Septemer. Crazy amounts of pipe to be run and then pulling all the wire. To let you know how crazy it's been I left my house at 5:40 AM today and I literally just walked through the door at 9:05 and sat at the computer. So I've been out of the house for a little over 15 hours and it was a 14 hour workday and it's been one of the shortest OTs we've had so far. I will get this review out. I promise I will not slack.

By the way, I found your review to be quite good and informative Dawsonbob. From my limited use so far I'm in agreement with alot that you've said. Luckily for me, the one I got came shaving sharp out of the box. Not hair popping, but it could shave arm and leg hair easily. I threw it down on a strop with a little compound and I was surprised to see how much sharped it became. Like it's been said already though, the sharpness doesn't last very long before resharpening is needed. Anyway, I will get the review out, but I just need a little time. A nice Saturday would work, but my next few weekends are another story.

Don't kill yourself, Tony. With the hours you're putting in I think everyone will understand if it takes awhile.

I wish the one I received had of come that sharp but, unfortunately, it didn't. It did take a pretty nice edge though, once I hit it with a stone and a strop. You're right; unfortunately, it doesn't hold the edge as long as some other steels, but it's fairly easy to sharpen. It reminds me of 1095 in that respect (easy to sharpen).

I'll look forward to your review when you have the time to do it. Two reviews are better than one.

Very fair and balanced review, dawsonbob. Thanks for the good job. G&G Hawk have some interesting designs and aren't afraid of trying something very non-traditional. The look may not be to everyone's taste, but they seem to put a lot of thought and innovation into their designs.

Thanks, PG5768. I must say that their designs are unique. From an aesthetic point of view, some aren't bad at all. My preferences are mostly for simple, tough, knives like Beckers or RAT's, so having the chance to review this one got me out of my rut, so to speak. It was a fun review to do.
