Hey folks, just curious what you more knife-educated people think of the Kershaw Whirlwind as a ~$50 folder for general camping/hiking use...I have a BM Grip (full-size, partial serr.) and I just picked up a Whirlwind for a buddy of mine. Thanks, and I'd like genuine, honest feedback (I've got thick skin!)

Great knife.I used mine brutally for EDC and it would always clean up nice.I can't imagine anyone having much negative to say about them.

I think the whirl wind is a nice general use folder. It doesn't have the latest and greatest steel or any of that stuff, but, mine lockes up nice and tight, has no play, and takes a nice edge. I have never been a huge fan of hollow scales but these are pretty comfortable and the knife is light.

I carried one for years and loved it. I recently used it to pry open a locked car door enough to slip in a hanger. I bent the tip, it broke when I tried to bend it back.:( It was a nice little knife, and for what its worth it did pry open the door enough to get the hanger in.

Its a fine folder. Well made, good steel, comfortable. Comes from a company that will back up the knife if something's wrong. Also its a Ken Onion design with his AO.

Well, I have a Blackout, which is the same except for the blade. I've had it since 2001 or 2002 and it still works great. I have only a few Kershaw AO knives, and this one still opens the strongest. If I had any complaints at all, it would be the overly long pocket clip design. The knife is very comfortable and cuts like crazy. Plus, I assume if the AO ever stopped working, it would still function fine as a standard manual linerlock.
