I was just checking these out at KnifeCenter. Pretty neat looking Ken Onion design. Plastic handles, torsion bar assisted opening, 3 3/8" blade. Looks like a nice utility design for every day carry. $54.95. Not bad. HOWEVER, 440A steel. That was a disappointment. I've never used 440A, so I'm not really basing that on experience. I wonder if I've become a steel snob? Any thoughts?

I like the Blackout. The blade shape and coating are more tactical. They're not going to be expensive, so the steel won't be close to the best. I think that the Speed-Safe will be the key to selling these puppies, not the materials. I agree, stay away from 440A whenever possible.

Hey i have had good edge holding, toughness and corrosion resistence with the 440a I've used guess it all comes down to geometry and heat treat technique, but 440a properly bone in my book makes a very useable knife.

Such a nice knife for a 440A blade. Tsk, tsk...
