Hey im new to BF and had heard about the site from various members on CPF (candlepowerforums) so I decided to stroll over here and have a look around. Im sorry if this has been mentioned before but BF wouldnt let me search (I guess because I dont have enough post?)

I have been collecting/ carrying/ and downright abusing knives since I was about 5. In the last 5~ years ive found Kershaw knives and owned more than my fair share but only recently did I discover they had the ZT line... Well I couldnt quite afford the ZT301 I really wanted but I found the ZT "Mudd" and since when im not working or racing, mudding is one of my favorite hobbies I thought it was only appropriate to buy a knife built for the elements!

So that being said does anyone have any experience with the Mudd and is it really as tough and "mud proof" as it says it is? Thanks!

Thanks tjsulli790 for the links! The review was great and the last one was a pretty cool testimonial. hwpaintballer, I just looked up the 350 and im more of a big knife kinda guy (ive been EDC'ing a Junkyard dog for a year or 2) but I think the ZT350 will be next on my list! Did the ZT line expand in the last couple months?

The Mudd is really cool! If you like big knives you won't be disappointed with one. Mine locked up solid with no play and I had no complaints with it.

Also check out the ZT 0200 for around $120. Lastly if you are on a budget, the Kershaw G10 Tyrade is a steel at about $75 and a better knife than it's ZT 0350 brother, IMO.

zt are tough brand,,very good bladesgot me out of a togh jam once :D..highly recommend them

Cool Knife.. But..The Blade play has been horrible on every model I have handled..
The stock clip is the worst of any folder I have ever owned.. I could not draw the knife out of my pocket 75% of the time..
After fixing the clip .. The knife was mint..
But The Lock design Sucks for blade play.. But seems very reliable.. IMO..
Oh .. and the rubber gasket deal did not work so well...
I much prefer the 0300...
For the price I would say, get the 0200 or 0350.. If you wont mind a bit of blade play then probably the MUDD..

mine has been very solid, but i baby my knives,so i couldnt say how much abuse they could take. i polished the two large pivot bolts & all the handle screws,it looks a lot nicer than a completely black knife...

I have a ZT 500 Mudd. The knife is a monster, very solid and very wellmade. It's one of three folders I have that I feel I could use for long term outdoor survival (the other two our a Spdyerco Manix and a Buck 110 custom).I do have a slight amount of blade play on (lateral, not horizontal) my but it's barely noticeable.

Based on the quality of the 500 I am thinking about the 350 for a possible EDC.

Well im not extremely picky but hopefully there wont be much (if any) blade play! This knife will be an EDC and will be used for anything and everything from stripping wires, to tightening screws, to cutting through plastic, wood, cardboard. Im a dog trainer by profession (for the time being) But im also a Ford certified specialty technician and I race streetbikes and build mud trucks and trail trucks and 4x4 ATV's. Ive just recently gotten back into Kayaking and mountainbiking and plan to take a week long trip up to West VA and Kayak up there and do some "primitive" camping. I also hunt fish and camp alot. So when I say this knife will be put through everything I mean everything.
I will be sure to update this post after my knife arrives and after I use it for a while. I might be putting some tritium vials in the 3 small slots in the G10. Does anyone that has already done this have pics?

I've had three of the 500's and all three came with some slight horizontal bladeplay, I simply tightened the pivot some, as I like a tighter pivot, and that took care of the horizontal play. I still have one of the ZT0500's and it is one of my very favorite edc's!!:thumbup::)

Some people on EDC forums/Candlepowerforums have done that.

When you do get the knife, it may be beneficial for you to mod the clip as explained by cutter and me in my review (first link). It's an awesome knife, and I think you will love it.

I'm all for putting some your knife through some use. But I wouldn't use it for stripping wire or as a screwdriver. That is not what it is intended for and your knife will just end up with a missing or blunted tip and a very chipped out blade. Have some screwdrivers and a pair of wire strippers and use the knife as a knife. Do that and you'll get plenty of years of service from it.

I have a MUDD and have been edcing it for several months as my work knife. I have done quite a bit of hard use with it, to include prying. I have dropped it onto concrete, used it to shove steel cable through holes, strip wire, as well as lots of general cutting , chores.

I have found it to be a very solid knife. The action is as smooth as it was when I bought it. It has developed a very, very slight amount of blade play, but you have to work at it to feel it.

I tied a lanyard to the knife which hangs out of my pocket. I am normally wearing gloves while working so I just pull the knife out of my pocket by the lanyard, then open it. It works very well with gloves.

The only complaint I have with the knife is the large sharpening notch right at the pivot. This notch catches when the blade is pushed into material like heavy paper or cloth. I have gotten in the habit of riding up and putting my (gloved) finger over the sharpening notch before cutting, this prevents material from catching in the notch.

Otherwise, I like the knife quite a lot!

I wouldn't use the blade as a screwdriver, but I have cut electrical wire with mine as well as stripped wire. The most damaging thing I have done is use the blade to push tempered steel cable through tight spots between boards, etc.

This did result in some rolling of the edge, but I have a belt grinder, so I am able to bring the edge back without difficulty.

Do as you wish but I've seen rolled edges from cutting things as measly as a twist tie from the grocery store. As for me I'll keep my cheap pair of wire strippers and cutters and use the right tool. It makes the job much easier and keeps me from having to sharpen my knife every night.

Well when I said strip wire I meat just that. I RARELY ever cut wire but it has happened before. And Ive gotten pretty good at cutting the insulation off without hitting the wire itself very much. (Is the sharpmaker the best halfway affordable sharpener there is currently?) I used to carry an awesome leatherman type tool made by swisstech (I think) but it didnt have a pocket clip and I ran out of pocket real estate anyway. I try to stay away from belt holsters of any EDC unless im hunting/camping/fishing.

And the knife will be used as a screwdriver in a pinch. I may look into making some type of clip to accept an allen key and just carry a flat/philips allen on me.

Ive broken the assisted open on my first chive a long time ago and Kershaw replaced it, ive lost one blackout and broke the tip off the other and then lost it, and ive broken the tips off of two blur tanto's lost one and still have the other that ive yet to send in for replacement (going on a year and a half lol). My Junkyard dog is still going strong and has been the longest used Kershaw ive owned. i also still own a rainbow chive that is just sitting in the box because its too shiny for my taste.

I may have to throw a multitool in my backpack next time I find a decent one though. My backpack generally goes with me wherever I go nowadays but I dont keep it on my person and I dont carry it on the bike or streetbike either.

Knivesandguns we'll see. I have a feeling I may end up modifying it a little but I like a clip that will hold on so ill feel comfortable carrying it on my bike. I usually EDC my knife hooked to my inner waist-band and if the G10 is as aggressive as people are saying it is I will probably take some fine grit sandpaper to it!

p.s. I hate slow mail! =( Im currently waiting for the MUDD and an all black Benchmade 580S and a RA Clicky Tactical and some other stuff for my fiance :foot:

Love mine. No blade play whatsoever. I did lower the clip as it had an annoying 1/8" gap between the top of the clip and the end of the grip. The edge of my pocket kept riding up in there and causing it to hang up when trying to draw it out. I also added a lanyard to help. Great knife otherwise.

:D Beautiful mountains down here, when you say West VA you do mean South West VA right? ;)
Yes sir! Last time I made a real mountains trip we were trail riding up about 15 minutes from crabtree falls on FSR 162 and I ended up getting a concussion, 12 stitches, loosing 1 tooth, and having nerve damage in 3 others when I get hit in the head due to a friend running over a small downed tree that hit me in the face while I was sitting in my truck.

Ive been looking at the fixed blade CRK's and i'm definantly Jonesing for one of those for hunting/camping!
